Next year is going to be pretty huge for PC gaming, with virtual reality set to finally land in the hands of gamers with the backing of both Valve and Oculus. As a result of this new technology, one Valve employee thinks that we will, in fact, see a resurgence in high-end PCs, which will be needed to push the high frame rates that virtual reality requires.
Writing on Twitter, Valve's Chet Faliszek said: “Thanks to VR, in this coming year we will see a resurgence of high-end PCs in the home”, he then went on to ask “What's the side-effect? What are the opportunities?”
As GameSpot points out, Nvidia at the moment estimates that around 13 million PCs globally are ready for VR games. However, the big push for VR could convince quite a few to invest in a new system or, at least, a new graphics card as both Nvidia and AMD are putting a lot of focus into VR and preparing driver support.
Right now, we can expect the Valve-backed HTC Vive to launch in April, with a huge breakthrough set to be announced at CES next week. The Oculus Rift on the other hand will have pre-orders launching soon, with a release date set for some time in Q1 2016.
KitGuru Says: Given how much of a push VR is getting next year, I wouldn't be surprised to see more people upgrading their rigs to comfortably run the games at the 90 frames per second sweet spot VR requires. Are any of you planning a new rig in time for the launch of VR headsets?

Resurgence is the wrong word, There was no downtime in enthusiast pc land, It’s been constantly growing over the years not shrinking like the rest of the markets!
You’re technically right but once you have a HEDT that’s kind of it as far as the commercial market goes. With certain areas monopolized so much so that next generation gains are minimal such as the CPU market and others just not going anywhere until a next iteration is available like RAM or PSUs there’s little more you need to think about for a good few years, with the exception of rich enthusiasts and reviewers.
Once you have say a Skylake system with a GTX980/R390X and 16-32GB of DDR4 how long does it really take for you to admit that you /need/ an upgrade
Not too interested in VR as i guess it’s only good for slower single player games.. I hope Valve show new games at CES.. My 980Ti is begging for L4D3.
Yup, that was FUBAR’d for sure!!!
I was planning to upgrade my PC, but if I want to make it VR ready, that’s going to cost a lot more than what I’m willing to spend. Right now, it’s only for early adapters, it won’t sell millions, especially considering the very high price for the VR system itself. Maybe in a few years when supporting systems become affordable to the average consumer.
When will people learn valve don’t do games with ‘3’ in the title…. yes yes i did just say that.

As soon as I build a system I am already seeing how I can improve it, wether it’s a second gpu or faster m.2 drive, That is my point regarding “enthusiast” there is never enough.
The problem is lack of competition to bring out the new tech fast enough, But I can assure you there is never enough and enthusiasts are waiting to throw money at the screen already.
How many are waiting for 16nm gpu’s, Then with that they will be wanting 4k displays above 60hz, Then VR and so on.
The list is endless, There is no resurgence the problem is the waiting game after all the delays, pc gaming and tech was never down, You see record number of people on steam playing games year after year and record sales in gpu’s, 16nm gpu delays , cpu delays, vr delays that is the problem.
My point is it was always there it was never down, No resurgence look at the stats on latest figures for 2015, Seen a huge jump from people moving from 1080p to 1440 and 4k,Also seen a huge jump in gpu sales. They make it sound like pc tech/gaming was dead, When really everyone was still buying high end gear but have been forced to wait because of all the delays.
Poor people are not magically going to get richer and be able to afford the high end gear to run VR it will first be the same crowd of people who already buy the high end gear, Which in turn drives down the prices for everyone else later on.
A few days ago new McLaren F1 subsequent after earning 18,512$,,,this was my previous month’s paycheck ,and-a little over, 17k$ Last month ..3-5 h/r of work a day with extra open doors & weekly paychecks. it’s realy the easiest work I have ever Do.
