The Oculus Rift is on track for Q1 launch

Next year is set to be big for virtual reality, we'll have the HTC Vive in April, the PlauStation VR headset in the second half of the year and perhaps most excitingly, the final version of the Oculus Rift in the first quarter.

Palmer Luckey and the Oculus crew have been teasing next year's release for some time now and pre-orders are expected to be launched soon. However, we don't have final pricing details yet, though rumours suggest it will be around the £300-£400 mark.

In a series of tweets last week, Palmer Luckey revealed that manufacturing was continuing to go well, with everything still on track for a Q1 launch for Oculus: “Thrilled to share some news: manufacturing continues to go well, and we are still on target for an awesome Rift launch in Q1.Pre-orders are coming soon after new year. Enjoy a stress-free holiday. We won't launch pre-orders without warning!”

On top of that, the Oculus founder alluded to pricing, noting that first generation virtual reality users are being “heavily subsidized” by large companies that want VR to succeed. Without investments from huge companies like Facebook, headsets like the Rift could end up costing over £1000, according to Luckey.

KitGuru Says: Given how long some people have been waiting for the consumer version of the Oculus Rift, it is great to hear that the headset is still on track to launch within the next few months.
