SEGA has even more franchise revivals in the works

During the 2023 Game Awards SEGA made a highly surprising announcement – revealing 5 new games for the first time all at once. What’s more, each of these titles represent new entries in much-loved yet long-dormant franchises. At the time, the publisher claimed that even more such games were in development. According to insiders, SEGA has an additional 5 returning classics in the works.

As reported by InsiderGaming, between 2020 and 2021 SEGA greenlit 10 classics to return. As mentioned, the publisher announced 5 of these title back in December of last year – those being:

  • Jet Set Radio
  • Shinobi
  • Golden Axe
  • Streets of Rage
  • Crazy Taxi

While we do not yet know what all of the remaining titles are, InsiderGaming has been able to uncover 3 of the 5, namely Panzer Dragoon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Sakura Taisen – all of which are said to be currently in early development.

SEGA is not stopping there however, as following the aforementioned Game Awards announcement, ‘Gematsu’ discovered that the publisher had trademarked a dozen games in total. Alongside trademarks for the already-announced titles, SEGA appears to be working on:

  • Alex Kidd
  • After Burner
  • House of the Dead
  • Outrun
  • Super Monkey Ball
  • Altered Beast Eternal
  • Champions Kid
  • Chameleon

Though not the most valuable IPs, SEGA is still in possession of a great deal of underutilised franchises from back when the company was in the console hardware space. Instead of just sitting on them, it is exciting to see that SEGA is trying to bring each of these back in one way or another.
