CES 2024: Alienware reveals new Pro Wireless mouse and keyboard

At CES 2024, Dell Alienware introduced the Pro Wireless Mouse and Alienware Pro Wireless Keyboard, Alienware's first foray into the competitive gaming peripheral market. These innovative wireless devices were unveiled alongside new gaming laptops and QD-OLED displays, all designed to please competitive gamers and esports pros alike.

To create a fitting mouse design for a diverse variety of gamers, Alienware designers worked with esports athletes, resulting in a rounded, symmetrical form appropriate for various grip styles (palm, claw, fingertip) and hand sizes. They found the ideal weight to be under 60 g, balancing mobility and stability. Moreover, the manufacturer used magnetic-force keyplates with optical switches to ensure every click is recognised as quickly as possible.

The Alienware Pro Mouse also supports 4 KHz wireless (0.25 ms response time) and 8 KHz wired polling rates, an improvement above the 1 KHz limit found on many of today's gaming mice. The mouse has 650 IPS tracking speed and supports up to 50 G acceleration and 26,000 DPI. Rated to withstand up to 70 million clicks, the mouse should last for a while.

Other features include a battery life of 32 hours at 4 KHz polling or 120 hours at 1 KHz polling. USB-C charging for five minutes provides six hours of playtime (1 KHz polling). An LED indicates when the battery is running out. Additionally, the mouse boasts additive-free PTFE feet for smooth gliding and a lightweight aluminium scroll wheel. Users can customise all six buttons and benefit from dual connectivity (2.4 GHz wireless and wired). Lastly, the Battery Saver Mode increases the life of the Pro Mouse by decreasing the polling rate from 4 KHz to 1 KHz.

With its compact 75% custom form factor, the Dell Alienware Pro Wireless keyboard aims to strike the perfect balance for players who want to save space while still having access to plenty of features, without stumbling over unnecessary keys. The keyboard uses the proprietary Alienware linear mechanical switches with a 40 g actuation force for quick inputs and a satisfying sound and feel. The transparent switches also allow the RGB light to shine through, providing a vibrant and even per-key glow. The switches are made of a low-friction POM material on the stem, resulting in fluid keystrokes without scratchiness. Moreover, two layers of silicone dampening remove echoing and produce a deeper tone.

The Pro Keyboard supports most 5-pin and 3-pin switches, letting users hot-swap as they please. The top plate of the keyboard is constructed from high-grade aluminium, and the double-shot PBT keycaps are tested to handle up to 100 million actuations and moulded in colour to resist fading. On the bottom of the keyboard, a long silicone strip and large silicone feet prevent accidental sliding while also allowing you to adjust the height to a comfortable typing angle.

Thanks to the Pro Keyboard's long battery life, gamers can play for 72 hours with RGB at 50% or 798 hours with RGB off on a 2.4 GHz wireless connection. In addition, it features tri-mode connectivity with 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB-C wired connectivity options and a 1 KHz polling rate for consistent response times across wired and wireless connections.

The Alienware Pro Wireless Keyboard and Mouse will be available in black or white. They are now available in the US, with the Alienware Pro Wireless Mouse going for $149.99 and the Pro Wireless Keyboard starting at $199.99.
