Bethesda has been releasing updates to Starfield since its release in September, mainly consisting of bug fixes and minor tweaks. However, the company recently announced that a major game update will be released early next year, addressing “in-progress” blocked quests. In addition, the developer also shared what the future holds for Bethesda's latest AAA title, including FSR 3, XeSS, mod support, city maps, and new travel methods.
To complement the fixes to “in-progress” blocked quests, the studio developed a new system to correct them without users having to roll back their saves. Furthermore, the early 2024 update will include Intel XeSS and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3). New gaming features such as maps that provide meaningful information while touring towns, PC editing tools, and in-game mod support will also be added in 2024.
Bethesda has also hinted at new ways of travelling in Starfield, although what this will entail remains to be seen. The first thing that comes to mind would be new vehicles, like a space rover for passengers.
The company has stated that these features will be released regularly, with fixes and updates expected every six weeks. However, they caution that they will only release hotfixes if they are safe for the game. In their words, “In a game this huge and active, we take a long time to test even the tiniest modification”. Finally, Bethesda plans to extend the game's narrative, although they have not yet announced a date forthe first story DLC.
