CCP Games to close Dust 514, will announce new shooter this year

CCP Games has announced that it plans to shut down its Eve-linked free to play shooter, Dust 514 in May this year, making room for a brand new FPS built in the Unreal 4 Engine. The free to play game will have its servers go offline on the 30th of May and the planned 1.3 update has also been cancelled. Those who are still playing the game will also notice that microtransactions have been removed entirely.

Dust 514 was CCP's own free to play shooter based in the same universe as Eve Online, it had a pretty limited player base due to the fact that it only ever launched on the PlayStation 3 but word has it that CCP has a better first-person shooter in the works and it may just be announced later this year following the shutdown of Dust 514.

Details of CCP's Dust 514 replacement are currently expected to arrive during the EVE Fanfest in April. CCP will be using its experience with Dust 514 to build a new game from scratch using the Unreal Engine 4.

KitGuru Says: The EVE universe is quite interesting and it seems that CCP wants to expand it further with new games. We will be getting Eve: Valkyrie for the Oculus Rift later this year and it looks like a new FPS game is also on the cards.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
