Need for Speed PC requirements released

While Need for Speed launched on consoles late last year, it is only just making its way round to the PC platform next month and now we have the minimum and recommended system requirements for the game. The minimum specification will allow you to run the game at 720p and 30 frames per second while the recommended specification is said to enable 1080p and 60 frames per second gameplay.

On the minimum side, you will need an Intel Core i3-4130 or an AMD equivalent, 6GB of RAM and a Nvidia GTX 750Ti or AMD Radeon HD7850 graphics card.

Those wanting to crank up the settings then you will need an Intel Core i5-4690 or better CPU, 8GB of RAM and a Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290 graphics card. In both cases, you will also need 30GB of free storage space on your system.

For those that like to take their racing games seriously, there is also a list of game wheels that are supported:

  • Logitech G27
  • Logitech G29
  • Logitech G920
  • Thrustmaster TX
  • Thrustmaster T150
  • Thrustmaster T300
  • Thrustmaster T500
  • Fanatec CSR

KitGuru Says: Need for Speed's reboot didn't do too well on consoles when it launched last year but maybe it will have a bit more success on the PC if the platform is treated properly. Are any of you big racing game fans? Are you planning on playing Need for Speed?

  1. hell yeah!!! bring on pascal and fullhd 60fps nfs !

  2. Not bad at all, always nice when the majority standard resolution/framerate combo doesn’t require the best of the best graphics card.
I might give this one a go, Not really big on racing games but NFS has always been a classic

  3. Wow my 660 Ti is getting behind

  4. What!!, the G25 not supported? surely it must be and they have just not listed it…..I hope

  5. 750Ti?
    720p 30fps min graphics?

So Xbox 1 runs the game at 720p 30fps around min PC graphics?

  6. What’s a Pascal? Is it a type of computer?

  7. Sounds about right

  8. Pascal is nVidia’s next generation of graphics cards. Unfortunately signs point to them being a repeat of the GTX 400 series, which were mostly considered rather broken by a lot of tech users, so I would hold my breath before just buying one as soon as it launches.

  9. Oh! See I just recently built my first PC, so I’m not too tech savvy parts wise. I currently have a 980Ti thing, and just hope it’s good enough. >_<

  10. A 980Ti is currently the strongest single video card, so even when the next generation comes out, it won’t suck.

Not right away, at least. It depends on how much of an improvement the new cards are.

  11. Oh! Thank you very much for explaining this to me, and being nice about it. Haven’t meant an amount of people I can count on my hand who aren’t actually rude to newbies like myself.

  12. I have no problems with newbies. Anybody willing to listen and learn and admit mistakes and move on is a-okay in my book.

It’s the people who don’t know what they’re talking about and refuse to accept information to the contrary that I have problems with. Not because I care about them being ill-informed, but because they’ll go around and ill-inform OTHERS.

It’s especially bad when you find them in droves. 10 completely wrong people telling person A one thing is hard to outweigh alone.

  13. You’re awesome! That’s all I can say on that front. Well hopefully you can help me on this matter.

Well you see I built my first PC with what I think are okay parts I guess. The 980Ti you told me that was good, an i7-6700k or whatever that means, I followed a build guide. However, I got a PC, but my TV is an old Emerson 32″ Class 720p 60Hz LCD HDTV. When I try to play Street Fighter I get this odd screen cutting thing.

I’d like to get a new display, but monitors aren’t that big, and I mostly play a lot of gamecube games on my PC since I no longer have any actual gamecube remotes, and I’d like a display big enough for split-screen games, and playing things like Street Fighter without that odd cutting thing. What do you think about this TV?

  14. Well, 4K 120Hz doesn’t exist yet. That’s a 60Hz panel with an effect similar to strobed backlighting which makes the picture look smoother, but doesn’t actually improve the refresh rates. And it if really WAS 4K at 120Hz, it’d not be $500 USD.

Here, why not try this panel? It’s more expensive though, but it’d be right up your alley for gaming. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260333

    It’s only 27″ though.

I don’t know of any larger-than-27″ panels that are 120Hz or higher in refresh rate, and neither does pcpartpicker.

  15. There’s never any guarantee that it would be completely flawless but, that TV should be a vast improvement on the one you have and I would be very surprised if you encounter the same problem on it.

The screen “cutting” thing as you put it sounds like what’s normally called screen tearing – which basically means that your TV’s maximum refresh rate (that 60MHz number) cannot keep up with such a powerful graphics card like the 980Ti sending a much higher number of frames per second (fps) to it than it can handle…most likely at well over 150 fps on that particular game at just 720p.

Just to let you know though, for the future, as this is a 4K TV – 8 times the resolution of your current 720p TV – it
will take a much higher amount of graphics muscle to run the most demanding
games (released in the last 2-3 years and many newer games) at smooth frame rates. This basically means that on these particular
games, you may not experience the screen tearing.

But, you could possibly have problems on the other end of the scale as you could start to
see screen stuttering where not enough/too few frames per second are delivered to
the screen at any one time. Reducing the game detail settings in the particular game or the resolution on your PC to something like Full HD (1920x1080p) or QuadHD (2560x1440p) would likely help a lot though. It’s a delicate balancing act.

All this depends on what games you’re planning on running on the PC though so, it very likely may not be a problem for you at all.

For example, for Street Fighter I, you should never have this particular problem on the 980Ti…not even close – if really doesn’t take much to run PC power to run the game. To be honest since it’s such an old game, you could still experience screen tearing even at 4K resolution since like pointed out previously, the 980Ti really is a beast of graphics card. But, you’d have to let me know on that xD.

Anyhow, I hope that helped and I didn’t confuse you any further! But, if I DID, let me know.

  16. Thanks! I would have wasted money. >__< Guess I'll have to find a 1080p 60hz – 120hz TV if that exist.

  17. Hi! Thanks a lot for the explanation. Well I don’t necessarily care to play in 4K. My main goal is to get rid of what you call Screen Tearing, while also having a screen big enough to play split-screen games like Timeplitters without straining my eyes. You’ve been really helpful! I’ll try the QuadHD thing, and if not I’ll go for FullHD. Also for Street Fighter if I take off that limit thing it gets like 300-something FPS. My other games stay on 60 for some reason which is fine by me since as long as it’s not in slow motion I’m fine.
