First gameplay video of KOTOR Unreal Engine 4 remake surfaces

It has been close to 13 years since Bioware launched Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the series still remains popular today. So much so that a group of budding enthusiasts have got together to reboot the game in its entirety and bring it to the Unreal Engine 4. We originally learned about this remake last month and since then, a ton of buzz has surrounded the project, leading us to the release of the first gameplay video.

The video is mostly just a pre-recorded walk-around tour of some of the new maps being built, including Tatooine, Taris and the Endar Spire, voiced over by YouTuber ‘MrMattyPlays', who has over 250,000 subscribers at the time of writing.

The development team plans to add “new worlds, missions HUD, inventory system, items and companions” so it is a pretty huge project. Not only is it going to see Knights of the Old Republic rebuilt in a modern engine but new content will also be added. The game will also feature a new combat system, with the ability to switch between third and first-person perspectives.

One thing that has concerned many is the legality of this remake. Fan-led projects like this don't always float well with copyright owners but so far, Disney hasn't hammered down with its lawyers just yet so we'll see how it goes. The team behind Knights of the Old Republic: Apeiron do claim that everything on their end is legally sound so hopefully we will see this project completed eventually.

KitGuru Says: As a huge fan of Knights of the Old Republic myself, I'm looking forward to this remake. It is still in the early stages though so we likely won't be playing it for ourselves for quite some time.

  1. as long as they don’t sell it i don’t think it can be taken down, but disney is horrible about perusing anything that might in any way infringe on their property.

  2. Yea, ok, the game’s good and all that, but I like the Mass Effect universe better. Anyways, good luck with this project.

  3. Actually they can just for using the star wars content and any assets from the origanl game
