Total War: Warhammer has been pushed back from its previously scheduled release date this month. The RTS was set to come out on the PC late April but will now be coming out on the 24th of May instead in order to give the studio more time to wrap some things up and ensure that review copies are sent out to press outlets well ahead of time.
However, there is also some additional news in the form of system requirements for the PC- they are quite detailed too. The minimum requirements should allow for 30fps gameplay in the campaign and in a 1v1 20v20 units battle on the low graphics preset. For this, you will need a 64-bit copy of Windows 7 or newer, an Intel Core 2 Duo, 3GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 5770 or Nvidia GTS 450 graphics card.
Those looking to play at 1080p using the ‘High' graphics preset will want to have an Intel Core i5-4570, 8GB of RAM and a Radeon R9 270X or GTX 760 graphics card. This should net you between 45 and 60 frames per second in the campaign and during a 1V1 battle with 20 units on each side.
Those wanting a solid 60+ frames per second at Ultra graphics settings in that same gameplay scenario will need an Intel Core i7-4790K, 8GB of RAM and an AMD Fury X or GTX 980 graphics card.
KitGuru Says: While it is always a shame to see a game delayed, the studio behind Total War: Warhammer put in quite a bit of effort to the system requirements. It isn't often we get given details on graphical settings and expected frame rates alongside minimum/recommended PC configurations. Are any of you planning on playing Total War: Warhammer when it comes out?
What I’m particularly interested in: the waiting times between turns. This has been a massive source of frustration, and I’d love to know with my specs whether I should keep my smartphone on standby.
Did they say 20 units v 20 units. One would have thought that would be 120 v 120?
Won’t be much of a battle.
Yup that’s what they said.
I’m pretty sure that’s because the units they’re talking of are most of the time not a single character, but anything from a single character/monster to a platoon each.
That at least would make a lot of sense from how the board game used to work.
Skaven clan rats, for example, came in boxes of 20, common skaven strategy is to have plenty of cannon fodder and if that is represented in TWW you could easily have 50% or more of your units be composed of clan rats which means you would have 200+ of the little bastards around until they got killed.
Well I can’t see there being enough factions in the game to cause problems like that. For better or worse.
Let’s not pretend that SEGA/CA won’t still release a buggy mess in May.
That makes sense. It was a bitch having to wait for 20 or 30 factions every single turn. I spent so much time with Attila waiting; you just get bored with the game.
Attila was just disappointing all around for me, with or without long turn endings.
