The Division is getting an open beta, will have more content

At the start of this month, many of us had a chance to play the closed beta for The Division. However, it was a bit short on content with many of the game's systems and areas locked off. Fortunately, an open beta has been announced which will have some of the early bug fixes that the developers have put together along with some more content to dive into.

For starters, open beta players will have access to a new mission called “Subway Morgue”, which will also introduce a new faction of enemies to the game. On top of that, while the closed beta only gave players access to the medical wing at their base, we will also have access to the tech wing when the open beta launches.

The Dark Zone, which is The Division's PvP area will also have some more content, with players able to buy new gear and weapons and NPC enemies in the zone will also be easier to come by. Going rogue will also have a bigger risk/reward factor with a bigger bounty placed on your head.

The Division's open beta kicks off on the 18th of February for Xbox One players and the 19th for PC and PlayStation 4. The open beta ends on the 21st of February so it is a pretty short test. The game will then launch on the 8th of March.

KitGuru Says: I really enjoyed The Division's closed beta so I'll definitely be hopping back in for the open beta and then checking out the state of the PC version at launch. Are any of you looking forward to The Division? Will you be taking part in the open beta?

  1. Sounds good, hype control is important so giving us slightly more than the CBT though not too much is a good choice for both returning players and new ones. My biggest question though, will progress be saved in the open beta what with it being so close to release date? CBT was nice in that is was consequence-free because of the progress not being saved so I didn’t have to worry about scrapping vs selling and giving me and other players a chance to truly dick around in the Dark Zone on the last day as rogues to experience that risk-reward side of the pvp area without much of a care.

Also the whole problem with modders and hackers. The excuse in the CBT as far as I understand is that they simply didn’t enable cheat detection (for what I can only assume is that they can find the early exploits and fix them up before release) but will the OBT feature anti-cheat? If not it could be beneficial for the reason mentioned above but then players really will fear that cheaters are going to be a big problem
