Nintendo may cease Wii U production this year

Update: Nintendo has released a statement denying these reports. You can find all of that information, HERE.

Original Story: It looks like Nintendo might be ready to move on from the Wii U completely by the end of the year as a new report is claiming that the company has plans to cease production of the console by the end of this year, presumably following on from the announcement and launch of the Nintendo NX, which we are expecting to be revealed near E3.

The report comes from Japanese site, Nikkei, which has often been a fairly decent source of information. According to the outlet, Nintendo is looking to deplete its existing stock and some Wii U accessories may have already had their production runs cut.

Nintendo has been promising to share more information on the Nintendo NX this year and just last week we got a look at what could end up being the console's new controller. This report also calls into question the future of Nintendo's planned Legend of Zelda game, which was delayed out of 2015 and currently has no release date. It is possible that the Wii U's biggest planned exclusive may also end up appearing on the NX, similarly to how Nintendo handled Twilight Princess on the GameCube/Wii.

KitGuru Says: It is starting to sound like Nintendo is planning to phase out the Wii U with the NX faster than initially anticipated. However, Nintendo is a very secretive and often unconventional company so it can be difficult to know what to expect.
