Quantum Break’s PC version gives pirates an eye patch

Over the years, developers have come up with plenty of clever ways to mess with gamers playing pirated copies of titles and Quantum Break is just the latest example as the PC version of the game will give the main character an eye-patch if you did not buy it. The eye-patch also shows up if you're not logged into the Windows Store too.

Remedy Games, the team behind Quantum Break also had a similar piracy easter egg in its previous game, Alan Wake.

The eye-patch DRM began making the rounds on Reddit earlier today. While the game can be run while logged out of the Windows Store, there doesn't appear to be any cracked versions of the game floating around yet. There are also reports of performance issues floating around, likely stemming from the UWP platform that Microsoft recently introduced, which requires a little more work to allow for features like V-Sync.

KitGuru Says: While this eye-patch isn't going to outright stop pirates, it is a nicer way of discouraging it. That said, the game has yet to be cracked in the first place so this discovery may have come in a little too early.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. Oh my gosh, i think that’s a dream come true. Actually this guy looks good with eyepatch. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this gift. Really MS, i think you are going to encourage me to pirate it. I think you should perhaps put some woman’s panties on his head, maybe that would do the trick, but an eyepatch, i think we look pretty cool with it 😀

  2. but it has no crack, as of yet no uwp app has been cracked or even in the process of being worked on. will not happen, there is no .exe

  3. Exactly my thoughts. This article says “While this eye-patch isn’t going to outright stop pirates, it is a nicer way of discouraging it”

    lol what?

Everyone is going to want the eye patch! Looks gangster!

  4. There is, just not the way you think there is. But a binary does exist for the game.

  5. Pirate: eyepatch?……. TADA!!!!…. Let’s play

  6. You’re not wrong, shit even I wanna do it now! lol

  7. some companies will use this eye patch as a dlc skin or a preorder bonus (ubisoft) but man Microsoft just gave it to pirates for free as a reward for pirating.

  8. Lol VSYNC issue 😀
Seriously, as if VSYNC wasn’t a major feature you can play around just to force people to use your crappy OS/WStore… Microsoft at its best, again (DX12 perf issue, anyone ?)

  9. Vsync issues, like it’s 1995 all over again… When Vsync is a challenge for you in 2016, your doing technology very wrong.
