Battlefield 1 is set in alternate WWI, releases in October

EA's official Battlefield 5 announcement stream doesn't kick off for another few hours but thanks to some promotional material leaks as well as a leak on the Xbox store, we already know quite a bit about the new shooter from DICE. For a start, it is apparently called Battlefield 1 (yes, you read that right), and as previous rumours suggested, it will be set during World War I, albeit an alternate history version.

As with most other Battlefield games, this one will be coming out in October, the 18th of October to be exact. Below you can see an image of the leaked promotional materials:

Those that pre-order the game will receive something called the ‘Hellfighter Pack' which contains themed items inspired by the Harlem Hellfighter infantry regiment. Aside from that, we don't have any gameplay yet or further information but more is set to be revealed at 9PM this evening over on EA's Battlefield reveal stream.

KitGuru Says: The naming for this game seems a little lazy but aside from that, I'm digging the concept of an alternate history version of World War I in a video game.

I must admit, this sounds very interesting. I wonder how ‘alternate’ it would be compared to real WW1.

  3. probably much less trench warfare.

  4. Seem weird to have it listed as 1 until you realize there never was a Battlefield 1 ever released as far as I know of any way. I guess they are covering their bases on this…lol

Obviously. I meant what kind of technology, weapons etc will they be using and if they will be using some made up technologies to work around the otherwise limited WW1 setting.

  7. Probably something more along the lines of the last WW1 game the team at DICE made. No really- they’ve done it before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJKzI5YIZ2Q

interesting. that looks a lot like the trailer except the graphics.

knowing the modern EA/DICE, it will be a bunch of hollywood BS special effects instead of the nitty gritty time in which is should be portrayed, cost to much, bunch of DLC and chock full of bugs that they always seem to have with EVERY BF game, color me surprised if this is not the case.

Frostbite engine I DO NOT like cause all the games made with it so far prioritize “special effects” and fishbowl looking through chest cameras vs the older refractor which while dated and “obsolete” it was “proper” as well.

To each own, if I counted on EA or one of their partners/subsidiary to make a great game that was not just about laser light shows and poorly chosen “real” effects, I would have suffocated many years back now 😛

  10. Except, it is not an “alternate” WW1 settings, but the real one.

As for the name, after Xbox One, nothing surprise me anymore >__<
