Intel 5820K VS 6850K Broadwell-E benchmarks leak

It looks like the lid on Intel's upcoming Broadwell-E processors has well and truly bl0wn off. Not only have several leaks from both motherboard makers and Intel itself confirmed the upcoming chips but now, benchmarks of the upcoming 6-core 6850K VS the Haswell-E 5820K have made their way on to the web.

This means that there is at least one Core i7-6850K out there in the wild being tested. Aside from the jump in architecture, these new Broadwell-E processors are built on the 14nm process, rather than 22nm which was used with Haswell-E. According to user ‘Maintenance Bot' on the Overclock.net forums, the new 6850K is notably thinner than the 5820K.

The poster overclocked both chips to 4.2 GHz before running 3D Mark Firestrike Extreme. The test system used a GTX 980Ti, an ASRock X99 Extreme 3 motherboard, 16GB of DDR4 RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD.

Here is a breakdown of the detailed scores for each processor along with hyperlinks to each Firestrike results page:

Intel Core i7 5820K:

  • 3DMark Score: 9353
  • Graphics Score: 9833
  • Physics Score: 16598
  • Combined Score: 4630
  • Graphics Test: 154.44 fps
  • Graphics Test: 235.2 fps
  • Physics Test: 52.69 fps
  • Combined Test: 21.54 fps

Intel Core i7 6850K:

  • 3DMark Score: 9440
  • Graphics Score: 9813
  • Physics Score: 19065
  • Combined Score: 4624
  • Graphics Test: 154.5 fps
  • Graphics Test: 235.05 fps
  • Physics Test: 60.53 fps
  • Combined Test: 21.51 fps

In Cinebench, the 6850K system scored 1311 points on the CPU, while the 5820K system scored 1191 points. The Overclock forum poster did not confirm where he got the chip from but he supplied plenty of images as proof and is continuing to make replies in the thread to answer what he can.

KitGuru Says: Given that at least one 6850K is out in the wild, we can't be too far off the official launch, which may well happen at Computex, which kicks off at the end of this month. Are any of you planning on upgrading to Broadwell-E?

The launch of the new Intel Core Ultra 200S family of CPUs along with Z890 motherboards was a thorny process. KitGuru suffered along with pretty much every other review site on the planet and you may have noticed we held off from reviewing of the Core Ultra 9 285K, Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 5 245K as it is clear to us that Intel has some work to do before this platform is ready for action.

  1. Not worth an upgrade then, as expected.

  3. If they’re anything like the Xeon 2600 V4 CPUs, they’ll use less electricity and run cooler. Though iirc, they also have slightly more performance gains over the V3s than these show.

Yup about 10C cooler by the looks of it.

  5. I found the performance boost inpressive to be honest. What would have impressed you 2x performance?
