Now we know why Star Wars: Battlefront didn’t have a campaign

Aside from the game's focus on simple, arcade-like mechanics, one of the bigger criticisms that many had against Star Wars: Battlefront prior to its launch was the lack of single-player campaign. While we never really got the full story previously, during a recent EA investor briefing, one of the publisher's executives finally explained that Battlefront's campaign was cut out in-order to ensure that the game launched just before Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

EA Studios boss, Patrick Söderlund explained: “The one thing that we got criticized for was the lack of a single-player campaign. It was a conscious decision we made due to time and being able to launch the game side-by-side with the movie that came out to get the strongest possible impact.”

While DICE did a great job of capturing the look of Star Wars with its Battlefront maps, many players also had issue with the lack of depth in the multiplayer. It seems that the studio were aiming to capture a wider, casual audience, rather than the core fans.

However, according to Söderlund, these things may change in Battlefront 2, which has already been confirmed as in development: “I think the team created a really good game based on the premise that we had. I would say the game has done very well for us and reached a very different demographic than a traditional EA game. So from that perspective, it's a success. Are we happy with the 75 rating? No. Is that something we're going to cure going forward? Absolutely”.

KitGuru Says: A lot of people like to claim that Battlefront was Battlefield with a Star Wars skin but honestly, if that were true we would have ended up with a better game. Hopefully the next Battlefront game we get will include a better amount of content.

Visually it’s one of the best looking games ever made. Buuut that’s just about it

  4. I played this game for a week.
They should offer a discount on the next game if you already have the first one.

  5. they needed to look at what made the first games great

Class based gameplay conquest mode and vehicles anyone could climb into not stupid pickups

  6. So basically, they made half a game in order to release it in time to cash in on the movie hype… nice.

  8. I have to admit, even though all the assets of the game are great… the gameplay was lackluster, I knew someone who plays and when I watch it, or even on YouTube… it felt very weak, the game was carried by the Star Wars theme and art assets. I hope they’ll do something that actually can stand on its own gameplay.

The only thing that really annoys me about this is that they evidently don’t intend to fix that problem, but rather want people to wait for the next installment so that they can charge the full price yet again. Meh :/

  10. They cut out content to rush it to shelves…but didn’t cut the price. Great…….

  11. since it MP only and som sp try out no more we dont play anymore. they would later put in a single player mod for us who want to play SP or just forget it. everything shall be online. even with a 56 kbps lien yous SHALL update 34-100 gb to play. you must 1 st have a 30-1tb line from telenor og google to play. you must pay us to be online crap. just look at wow star trek online. YOU SIMpLY NEED TO BUY . to stay on youre rank. star wars geme jump to hyperspace needed to hav visa master card to get online for a few days. if there are no sp we dont buy it for to gat a repeating MP play. we buy it to get ths fps expirience. not get shot by first sec and wait again. what if all gaming runs on online then all lines in youre earia goes down . you loose youre rank and so on. hope we get battlefront 4 with SP/MP again. we dont pay for mp no more. fiber optic line are now the new dvd only bdr. if games goes ower 100-1tb after we get 4k-11k gaming it would take ours to get down games to computer. a sp should be there and mp should only be there when sp not are more fun (gøy)..
