While Microsoft may have managed to boost its Windows 10 numbers significantly over the last year thanks to things like automatic upgrades and free installs for those on Windows 7 or 8, a new report this week says that adoption is actually slowing down now. It only took Microsoft a few months to surpass the 100 million installs landmark last year but the pace seems to be slowing.
According to statistics released by NetMarketShare (via: Digital Trends), in April, Windows 10 market share hit 14.35 percent but month to month market share has taken a hit. From January to February this year, Windows 10 grew by one percent but from March to April, Microsoft only saw 0.2 percent growth, which is a big decline in pace.
This could obviously be a one-off occurrence and things could pick right back up again in May. However, right now the numbers seem to show that fewer people are upgrading to Windows 10 for the time being. That said, Windows 10 is still the second most popular OS in the world now, right behind Windows 7, which still holds a commanding lead.
KitGuru Says: Microsoft has been trying every trick in the book to push people to upgrade to Windows 10 in the past year but the OS hasn't been without its issues. Have any of you not upgraded to Windows 10 yet? How long are you planning on holding off for?
LOL! Not me. I didn’t updating Windows 7 until end of free Windows 10 Upgrade.
NetMarketShare has corrected its data. Windows 10 grew by 1,19% to 15,34%
This is really ridiculous and, imho, unnecessary. Why you don´t install important updates? The W10 “brandmarked” updates are all recommended but optional updates.
