While we continue with our extensive testing for the planned review of both major VR headsets, for some the battle of which is better, the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift, needs to be settled in combat. Medieval, brutal, horse-back combat. With swords and lances. That's possible too, because it's virtual reality and because Valiant is now available on Steam.
Valiant is a multiplayer, horseback medieval combat title, where players ride around on their heavily armoured steeds, firing arrows, swinging blades and stabbing one another in VR combat. It was available before the release of both big headsets for development kits, but now it's compatible with both the Rift and the Vive and it's available in Early Access on Steam.
Better yet, regardless of which headset you wear, you can play against everyone else, so we may well see some Rift and Vive teams emerge among the horselords of VR. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbAuXrLLux8′]
Of course, being an Early Access game does mean that content is rather limited and the experience isn't 100 per cent polished yet. While the game does feature impressive positional audio and VOIP for team discussion and intimidating your opponents, there are reports that it's made a few people ill.
There are only a few maps at the moment too and the movement in-game is said to be a little janky. There are also networking issues which have caused a few freezes and lag spikes mid-game, which is never good for VR.
But those are all being worked on. The developers promise frequent updates and the game is even discounted to £13 this week, so it isn't going to break the bank like some VR titles.

KitGuru Says: With support for gamepads and tracked motion controls, this might settle the debate over which headset gives users the most control. Who do you think would win?
