On the back of this week's news that Microsoft's free Windows 10 upgrade period would be coming to a close in July, we have also learned that those annoying ‘upgrade to Windows 10' notifications will also be going away for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users.
In a statement sent over to WinBeta, Microsoft confirmed that after July 29th, when the free Windows 10 upgrade period ends, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users would no longer get ‘upgrade to Windows 10' notifications: “Details are still being finalized, but on July 29th the Get Windows 10 app that facilitates the easy upgrade to Windows 10 will be disabled and eventually removed from PCs worldwide. Just as it took time to ramp up and roll out the Get Windows 10 app, it will take time to ramp it down.”
From the sounds of it, the pre-install Windows 10 files that Microsoft stealthily placed on PCs last year will also be removed, so you may see some hard drive space suddenly re-appear. As we reported earlier, from the 29th of July, Windows 10 will cost £99.99 here in the UK for new system builders or upgraders.
KitGuru Says: This is good news, particularly since Microsoft's upgrade notification recently intruded on a weather forecast. Are any of you holding off on upgrading to Windows 10? Will you be upgrading before the free period ends?
