People seem to be a lot happier with Battlefield 1’s trailer

Earlier this week, Activision officially released the first trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, revealing that this year's version of the shooter would once again take on a futuristic setting. The trailer quickly went on to become one of the most heavily downvoted videos on YouTube, which led to Activision's CEO defending the franchise to investors. However, the grass is looking much greener for EA and DICE this year, as the Battlefield 1 trailer that launched last night has garnered a much more positive reception.

Unimaginative names aside, DICE is taking Battlefield players back to World War I this October, though rather than making a faithful adaption of historical events, the team has opted for a ‘alternate timeline' and the trailer looks awesome: [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7nRTF2SowQ']

Battlefield 1 launches on the 18th of October this year but there will likely be a closed and open beta session at some point before then. On top of that, those who subscribe to EA Access on Xbox One will get to play the game earlier as well, just as we saw with Battlefield Hardline and Star Wars: Battlefront.

KitGuru Says: I decided to tune in and check out the Battlefield 1 trailer live last night and I was more impressed than I thought I would be. Could this be the year that Battlefield takes over from Call of Duty as the biggest holiday shooter? Things aren't exactly looking good for COD right now judging by the reaction to the trailer.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

Apparently melee combat is a focus of this title. Intrigues me. hopefully it has some depth. Would be nice to get a soft cover system.

I’m not sure an FPS game can be made from WWI, where 90% of the casualties were caused by artillery fire and the combat was typified by stalemate…definitely no room for “one man army”/COD type crap

  5. I don’t know about this. It looks awesome, but… should a WW1 game ever look awesome? I know they’re going the sort of “alternate timeline” route, but… basically every part of WW1 was hell, and it was never all that exciting. On the other hand, the game looks hella fun, so if DICE has learned from BF4, I might actually pick this one up.

Soft cover. The cover mechanics that are employed by games like Far Cry 3. only being able to crouch and prone is COD BS.

COD devs say the destructibles are “impossible” for their title, not everyone elses, cause they use an old ass engine and it would actually cost money to change it around to make it a possibility. Theres a reason why they’re using 9 year old animations. Its just a cash grab title. Less innovation with more return. As much as I disliked battlefield, at least they’ve increased destruction.
