No Man’s Sky is apparently getting another delay

If you were getting excited about the June 20th release date for No Man's Sky, then you may want to reel in your expectations as according to various sources, the ambitious space game is set to get a last-minute delay, which could push the title back as far as August.

No Man's Sky has been hyped up for several years now and according to Kotaku's various sources, the game will no longer meet its June release date.

The game won't be pushed back too far though, apparently a new date is currently being planned for either July or August. Retailers already seem to be aware of the delay but Hello Games and Sony have yet to offer any official confirmation. Given that the word is already out there, we will likely hear more about this quite soon.

This happens a little too often in the games industry now to the point where it seems software engineering principles aren’t even applied anymore. I’d rather the developers set much longer release dates with the potential chance of the game being released early, as opposed to being told delays are happening right as the release date approaches.

It’s all counter intuitive to me. delays are a hype killer, (potential) earlier-than-expected releases only generate more hype

  3. under promise and over deliver is how it should work. but this happens when you have stakeholders setting release and not developers

I suppose that is a factor I hadn’t considered. It’s usually the fault of the publisher but as they’re self-publishing they should have a good amount of control over creative freedom and deadlines

  5. They’re not entirely self-publishing, they’ve been reliant on a lot of input from Sony.

  6. they didnt have enough sales, need more hype… probably i will be right and it will be an overhyped boring crap.

  7. I disagree.

It isn’t a hype killer to delay a game… It makes headlines, it’s more free advertising when websites all across the net talk about this game. It’s smart business, and only makes fans of the game salivate more, especially for a short delay like this.

Many will “claim” they are angry and no longer interested, but that is often just them over-reacting. Talk is cheap after all, and entitled gamers like to pretend they have control, or this imaginary power over a studio. They don’t.
If your game is good, it sells, it’s that simple now.

The only time you are correct, is if it’s obviously a bad game, or delayed so long it’s like duke nukem forever… and even that game sold a lot of copies…

No mans sky might very well be too good to be true, but there is still millions of gamers anxiously waiting for it. It does something pretty amazing after all. This delay will HELP them sell even more copies day 1.

  8. Have fun playing solo guys. The chance of finding your friends there is 1/sixtillion. It is endless procedurally generated universe.
Star Citizen > No Man’s Sky.
Elite Dangerous > No Man’s Sky.
