Oculus Rift customers are facing shipping delays

Oculus has been facing some issues with the launch of the Rift, last week the company revealed that it was facing a component shortage and now this week, customers are being warned of lengthy delays and given new shipping windows.

Oculus sent out some shipping update emails to customers last night and pre-orderers are sharing their experiences on the forums, revealing that some of those with March shipping dates have had things pushed back to May. On top of that, those with April and June shipping dates are facing six to eight week delays as well. One Kickstarter backer has also chimed in, claiming that their March shipping date got pushed back to August.

As you can imagine, a lot of customers aren't too happy about the level of communication from Oculus during this time, with plenty of annoyed customers posting in the Oculus forums and on the subreddit.

The official email going around from Oculus reads: “We've updated your Order History with a new shipment window for your Rift. This window may be later than your original estimate, due to the early component shortage. As a reminder, we'll send you an email when we charge the payment method on file for your purchase and prepare your shipment. We'll also cover all shipping and handling costs for orders placed through 11:59 PDT on April 1, 2016.”

KitGuru Says: Plenty of people have been waiting years for the consumer version of the Rift to become available so it is a huge shame to see the launch facing so many issues. Hopefully the component shortage situation can be resolved quickly. Did any of you pre-order a Rift? Have you had your shipping date changed this week?

  5. Youtubers live and die by how many clicks they can get. Which is why 90% of them are either throwing in their opinion on controversial topics while the other 9% create the drama in the first place.

Youtube is a land of bipolar attitudes and misleading thumbnails. The easiest job in the world is to be a critic…

  6. So all the critics on youtube are worthless? I don’t agree. And I think these guys did a great job showing why VR is not ready yet. Very valid critique, and very informative.

If you only show the positives of something, you might come away thinking the Ouya was the best console ever.

I especially hate how all valid color commentary critique instantly gets labeled as “destructive”, because everyone is a wimp and can’t handle analogies and jest I guess.

  7. Woah buddy, that’s a lot of assumptions your throwing onto me… did I say Youtubers are worthless? A good few of them make decent videos, probably less than 1% though. I never stated that something must “only show positives”, again those are your words not mine.

This is what I mean by the internet as a bipolar place, everything is tribalism: You’re either with us or against us. It’s immature and meaningless. I take everything with a dash of skepticism. I don’t blindly accept what anyone’s opinion is. I prefer to experience it for myself and if that isn’t possible, gather as much factual information as possible to arrive at a conclusion…

I’ve dabbled with VR a few times and I can confidently disagree with that youtuber’s claim. The reason I’m inclined to believe that youtuber is trying to get attention is because:
    1) It’s low hanging fruit to take something people are excited for and intentionally try to ruin that. They went in with the intent of finding as much negative commentary as possible, knowing that as people argue about it in the comments each reply is another advert for them…
    2) The thumbnail has been modified or intentionally squashed against his face to make it as overly red as they can get it. I’ve never seen any markings like that at any convention before… it’s the same tactics tabloids use to get attention and that already puts up warning flags for the legitimacy of the content.
