Just a few days after Nvidia's official unveiling of the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 Pascal-based graphics cards, reports surrounding AMD's plans for the year have begun to surface. According to the most recent reports, AMD is apparently planning a major press conference for the end of May, at which it is said to be launching its new Polaris graphics cards.
We already know a little bit about Polaris, as AMD has announced that it will have two GPUs based on the architecture out this year, with a big focus on a better performance per watt ratio. According to the site Zolkorn, AMD will be holding its event between the 26th and 31st of May, just before Computex kicks off.
According to the report, AMD is already sending out press invitations. This news also coincides with previous reports, which indicated that AMD would be launching the R9 490 and 490x series in June.
We don't have much more information than that at the moment but with the announcement apparently taking place in just a few weeks, we could end up hearing more any day now.
KitGuru Says: It looks like AMD could be following up with some new graphics cards of its own pretty soon. It will certainly be interesting to see how Polaris stacks up against Pascal. Are any of you currently preparing to upgrade your graphics card? Do you think you'll go with Polaris or Pascal?
polaris
I see in the picture that P11 is bigger then P10 which is the opposite. P11 is mainly for mobile and P10 for desktop.
Oh please let the rumor of the 480/480X being on par with a 390 be true. Would love to upgrade my 270X
Hmm…I was planning on getting a GTX 1080, but now maybe I’ll hold off to see what AMD brings to the table.
I don’t know if its going to be more powerful than Pascal because the GTX 1070 looks freaking powerful but I’m excited to finally see a new GPU architecture from AMD which is 14nm btw.
Have you any information about Nvidia implementation of HDR?
amd nor nvidia will be doing hbm2 this year it ill be ddr5x on top end and ddr5 on mid and low
SO TRUE IT WILL EB THE BEStTE
But the 490/490X COULD COME
He asked about HDR not HBM
490/490x is interesting, but I am really looking forward for Vega 10 next year.

Same here, I’d need a new cpu, mono etc to make full use of Vega so it looks like a new system for me.
if the bencharks of the full Polaris 10 at 800mhz beating out the 980 and Titan Black is any indication, it is possible that it will be massively more powerful than the 390 at full speed (say past 1ghz, if it can go up to the baseclock of a 1080, AMD will need to ship new pants with all full Polaris 10’s), if said card is delivered under $250, this will make things interesting. I’m calling it to be a tremendous success if a Polaris card will be shipped at or under $150 that is VR ready, even if said card costs $200, that is still a big win
May be out of my budget, unless its less than 300 XD

I’m waiting for Vega. Should get a 4K FreeSync monitor to go with it. With a 35-120 Hz range hopefully.
