Fallout 4 and DOOM are being ported over to Virtual Reality

Bethesda has announced at its pre-E3 show that it is currently developing versions of both DOOM and Fallout 4 for virtual reality. The plan is to first bring them to the HTC Vive, with support for other headsets like the Oculus Rift further down the line.

The way the two games will work in VR will be a little different. DOOM is said to be a “virtual tour of hell,” showing off the capabilities of the latest id Tech 6 engine in all its glory. However Fallout 4 will be the full game, with players able to take part in all the quests, all the exploration and all the gun-toting action of the base game and its DLC when it's released.

When that will be is anyone's guess, as during its livestream event Bethesda merely stated it would come at some point in 2017, though we may learn more when E3 kicks off tomorrow.

What we will certainly find out though is how Bethesda's VR ports work, as some early versions of the DOOM and Fallout 4 VR experiences will be available to play. We'll be very interested to learn how locomotion works with a limited real-world space in an open virtual world and what combat will be like when using motion controllers.

In other Bethesda news at its pre-E3 showcase, it announced a Prey remake which would use a similar story as the original, but reimagines the IP into something similar but distinctly different. It also announced a recreation of classic shooter Quake: Champions, a remastering of Skyrim, a special edition of the RPG and and expansive release line up of Elder Scrolls Legends on different platforms.
