The EU said to hit Google with huge €3 billion fine

The European Commission currently has several anti-trust cases out against Google, one of which focuses on the company's monopoly on Search Engines. Some companies have accused Google of favouring its own services in search results and while Google has made its defence, reports this week are saying that the EU Commission could hit Google with a record high €3 billion fine.

The Commission has slapped tech companies with massive fines in the past, in-fact they demanded €1.1 billion from Intel back in 2009, which was the biggest one to date. The new fine was revealed to The Telegraph by a number of sources involved with the EU's proceedings against Google.

Aside from the record-high fine, according to The Telegraph, Google will also be banned from placing its own shopping results higher than competing services in its search results. We should get more detail on what changes Google will need to make on its end after this is all made official, though it is worth pointing out that Google denies that it harms competition in Europe.

KitGuru Says: This is just one of the several cases the EU Commission has going against Google at the moment. This news isn't completely official yet but we will likely hear more quite soon.

“Google will also be banned from placing its own shopping results higher than competing services in its search results.” But is this not also anti-competitive? Just stick what’s most popular on top and nothing more

it shouldn’t be, it should be to legitly promote competition, but this is crap, no one is forced to use Google, its a free service, and they are probably providing links to there services which are free as well.

isn’t Google the most popular search engine? its obviously better, antitrust should go after illegal tactics and trying to control that market share, not go after the fact they just have a better service.

  6. Tbf what’s most popular is likely Googles other services, if you’re looking for maps Google maps is going come up first because it’s the most popular….

  7. If that were true then AMD would be the only holder if x64 chips, and Intel x86… but AMD could have never existed to develop x64 without the x86 licence.
