The Warcraft movie is coming out fairly soon and in an effort to get extra people into screenings across the world, Blizzard has announced that it will also be giving away free digital copies of World of Warcraft at participating cinemas. On top of that, if you already have the game and log in between the 25th of May and the 1st of August, you will receive a set of transmogrification items inspired by the film.
This idea has been floating around for a while, as Blizzard asked for fan feedback on the promotion several months ago. However, now it is official though this promotion will only be active at specific cinemas. In the US, certain Regal Cinema locations will be offering the free game.
This isn't a US-only promotion though, it is also running in Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, France, Germany and more. Obviously the locations to buy a ticket will vary depending on which country you are in. If you want to see the full list of participating cinemas/ticket bookers along with the list of countries included in the promotion, you can find that, HERE.
KitGuru Says: It makes sense for Blizzard to try and use this opportunity to bring more people into World of Warcraft. It will be interesting to see how well it works, or if it makes any major impact on the popularity of either the film or the game.
Hm, this all follows my tinhat theory that it was cheaper for Blizz to make a film to help advertise WoW then it was to make a marketing campaign that targeted this customer base. It’s a shame the game is so dated nowadays and they don’t have a sequel planned.
I will watch the movie, but I am not going to accept your free game. I played it already, got to level 30 and then just got bored of questing and questing and leveling and what the hell – it takes FOREVER! No thank you Blizzard.

How long ago did you play? I mean back in the first expansion yes it did take forever to level up. Now you can generally get to max level in about a week (less if you get the free level boost for buying the next expansion)
But the way they have the game set up with the expansion mechanic there is no need fore a sequel. I mean it totally sucks in D3 that I can’t play my Necro or Druid that I loved in D2. With WoW I can always play my favorite characters in the new content if I want (or make new ones if I choose as well). Games like WoW do not need sequels.
I just wished they had picked a popular theater like AMC. I have never even heard of the company they are working with in the US and when I looked on their website it says there are no theaters in my state.
I think 2 expansions ago…i can’t remember the name of the expansion but it was till level 90. It took me forever to level to level 30 (Mage solo). The game was $5 back then when I bought it and then I played for the first 30 days and I was like F this is a waste of time…
I wish FFXIV A realm reborn had that many levels. I can’t tell you the enjoyment I got out of that game. I tried to enjoy WoW, but I just couldn’t…
Um, I think you don’t realize just how dated WoW is. When peoples phone games look better and play better, its time to retire this mmo to the graveyard. Its player base hasn’t be shrinking because it keeps on getting better each year…^^
REALLY??? I BOUGHT 5 ACCOUNTS FOR THE KIDS AND I…GEEZE Blizzard!
giggles…he played to level 30..that was like what ten minutes? Wow you really tried the game out..oh wait that is the free trail max huh. 14 years of playing here with the next generation coming up as well in the game. Stick to Angry Birds or whatever….
Sighs…WoW my be old, but it is definitely not dated. Some of us actually enjoy MMORPG for what it was meant for. Socialization and fun in a game that you can practically do anything in.
Wow has gotten really boring. It’s was fun years ago. Even end game is so monotonous. FF XIV on the other hand is amazing.
a Free copy of WoW ?? LOL, there is no such thing. You still have to pay for sub, pay for expansions, pay for shop items….You never stop paying @ Blizz cash cows.
Id prefer a game that i have no levels whatsoever, and that game is Star Citizen. I can do anything I like, just earn some in-game money, buy a ship and I am already at end-game doing all the fun stuff. No need to spend a freaking 50-100 hours to get to level 100 and do repetitive and boring quests. And no I did not play 10 minutes, sorry to disapoint you. Experience gain, grinding and quests are just too boring and repetitive. I wish I had to only look for good equipment without having to level up and then do PvP and whatever. Leveling is a waste of time and a means of Blizzard making more money out of me paying for more time to spend leveling up.
I am going to see the movie on the 16th when it is released here in townsvile i am a lvl 100 death night but I know you only give thing to the big cities and forget everyone else but I will take anything you will give
wow get boring if you don’t do dungeons pvp battles play the Minne games talk to people in the chat part use your imagination communicate with your guild look at the songs and media on you tube do pet battles explore you don’t have to do quests but it helps and you don’t have to do anything you can run low level dungeons by yourself you just have to ignore the rubbish people say and if you want to level fast start a death night and start at 55-58 it is not like other games
Not dated compared to what?! And do anything like in GTA? O right…. You just haven’t played anything else in the last 15 years.
The latest expression offers a max level boost when you buy it. I think it puts you at 90 then you play in the expansion content to 95. I did this for a level 80 character because I had similar feelings to you. If you follow a question/leveling guide you should be able to hit max level with decent enough instance gear within 50 hours. People play wow for different reasons. I for one play for the lore aspect as I’d read the books and played Warcraft 3 in the past. It’s great to experience the worlds you’d only read about or even in a whole new perspective.
Here’s the thing: questing is boring, but when it comes down to it you need to learn skill rotations, hp and mana management, and which skills you need to really max out your damage over time. WoW, like many games, took the questing approach to give you incentive to practice your spells and moves so you’re not looking over each spell in a 5 man instance and die in fire because you weren’t watching your character. The leveling system is more for newer players so they’re not overloaded with information. This makes alt characters kind of a pain to make, but for like $10 you can jump one up to level 90 (or 95 when legion comes out). WoW has a ton of stable content because of its subscription system, and that’s why it was so popular for so long. The dev and story team get resources to make relatively strong visual and story content because they have the resources afforded to them from the subscription team.
The beauty of games is that you can find one that lets you do what you want. Just don’t whine when popular games don’t play the way you want them to. I don’t know how Star Citizen plays, but if you want a game with a low investment from beginning to endgame then go for it. I doubt it’ll have a ton of nuance to the system but that’s just been my experience playing many kinds of rpgs over the years.
Hello there, thanks for the info, i agree with a lot of your points there.
Now to be honest I played both WoW and Final Fantasy XIV A realm reborn. Both are with subscription. However FFXIV ARR really gave me what I was looking for, there is no doubt, and that really brought up it to my favorite MMOs. It also has quests, but for some reason those quests are made in such way that they are never boring, idk is it the music or description of quests but something makes me want to keep doing more and more of them and even replay the game multiple times. Really – FFXIV is my top game, hands down and well done to Square Enix.
Star Citizen on the other hand made me also excited, why? – I think it is Chris Roberts himself who made a comeback and is working on something I was looking for that is like Freelancer – a breathing universe that no MMO offers. For quite awhile I have been following this game and it is looking to be a great milestone when it is out.
I got World of Warcraft for $5 when it was on sale. I played it, it started with a big motivation for me, however, for some reason, no matter how much I tried to enjoy those quests, to read them, to be interested in the lore, just as I was playing, that big “hype” i had over that game, to finally play on official servers and see what is like (since I played on MoltenWoW private server before) kind get lesser. I just simply couldn’t enjoy it, as much as I wanted, it didn’t work. A friend of mine was helping me build up my character and skills. Hell it didn’t make a difference. I remember doing only a single dungeon by the time I reached level 30. That dungeon was difficult and was cool but if I am going to compare this experience with the many challenging ones I had in Final Fantasy XIV by the time I reached that same level, clearly it looses. Sorry man, but as much as I want to go back to WoW and try it again, as much as I don’t, when i think about by level 30.
Well, maybe if I tell you that I play LOTRO from time to time, you might go mad at me, cuz this is essentially like WoW but you know, a “declining” game in a way, though it is “free” and yeah…Usually I don’t pay a subscription if I will not have that much time to play the game i subscribed for – that’s really the main reason why I am also to a big fan of sub games. But that’s another story – it gets to the point of personal preferences really. One day maybe I will have another go at WoW, but just not as soon.
