Seemingly confirming rumours of a new Xbox One with more power and a reduced footprint, promotional images showing off just that have appeared online days before Microsoft's briefing at E3. They show a smaller, whiter Xbox One, which we're told contains a 2TB hard drive and will be capable of handling 4K video.
In the build up to this news there was a lot of discussion about whether Microsoft could actually produce a console capable of such resolutions, since the Xbox One has had a lot of difficulties hitting 60 frames per second and 1080P resolution. What's important to take note of here though is that the One S is being touted as capable of 4K video, not rendering for 3D games.
“Sleeker, slimmer, sharper,” reads the marketing material. It tells us that the system is 40 per cent smaller than the original Xbox One, supports the boosted resolution for video and has all of that extra storage space. It's also said to be capable of High Dynamic Range, has a “streamlined controller,” and comes with its own vertical stand.
Perhaps the most stark difference from the standard Xbox One though, is that this one is almost entirely white. It has a black layer to it, but the main body is stark white.
The images haven't been officially confirmed by Microsoft, with the company releasing its usual refusal to comment on rumours. NeoGAF seems pretty convinced at the reality of what these pictures show though.

KitGuru Says: Quite a neat looking console, but will white fit in with your living room set up? Perhaps more importantly of course, would this encourage you to upgrade your TV to 4K?
I like it, but shouldn’t i wait for scorpio?
Buy PC
This is Scorpio; if you heard any commentary on a 4K gaming console, it doesn’t exist yet. Right now the push is to get 4K video playback into more homes with additional capability than just a video player.
And if you already have a PC more than capable of running multi-platform ports?
I don’t see a reason not to get this new generation of console for the exclusives against the previous generation.
personally not interested in 4K video or VR at the moment, I am curious how this new console can handle 1440p with minimal internal scaling, if any.
Firstly, so this is the Slim and Project Scorpio just rolled into one? If so awesome but it’d be interesting to see its price tag in that case.
Secondly, does E3 even exist anymore? Like seriously we’ve have 5 or 6 leaks in the past few days, can people not wait one or two more days for it to just be announced?
dude this isnt scorpio. This is the slimmer xbox. Scorpio is the upgraded one and 4x times powerful than current xbox.
…or build one.
I think that’s more hope than for certain. If MS doesn’t come out with a revamped console like Sony has already confirmed, they may be limited to just their exclusives audience. That will make it a tough next 4 years.
No, Scorpio is more 4 times powerful than the base Xbox one (and therefore One S as well) and MS claims can do 4k gaming unlike the One S.
Microsoft have now confirmed the 4x more powerful Scorpio.
I already have a good gaming pc. Just want to complement that with a console, BTW i’ve never owned a console before.
