Cuphead is still gorgeous, even with standard levels

Although initially intended as a continual brawl against a number of bosses, the '30s animation inspired side-scroller Cuphead now has some levels to beat, as well as a number of larger foes. That doesn't mean the game looks any worse though – if anything it's as pretty and nostalgic as ever.

You'll have to excuse the IGN staff's abilities for the video showcase of the game below – the blue player seems to love dying – but their time with Cuphead still shows off what the game's new levels are like, as well as one of the imaginative boss fights which has our crockery-headed-pals taking on a carrot with a third eye and I want to say a giant potato?

I'm not 100 percent but that's what it looks like. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KaXZcjQiWc']

Needless to say the music in this game is very period specific for the animation style and has me flashbacking to watching early Loony Tunes as a kid.

Of course there is the concern with Cuphead that its gameplay may be repetitive. The style of the game is retro, so much of its gameplay is too, with pattern recognition the name of the game. However I personally enjoyed taking on one of the game's bossses back at the last Insomnia floor show, so I'm still excited to see what it's like when released.

Whenever that is. Microsoft nor developer  Studio MDHR have been quoted on an actual launch date, though we're presuming it'll land before the end of this year. Cuphead has been in development in one form of another for over six years, so I imagine the developers want to finally get this one out there.

KitGuru Says: What do you guys think of Cuphead? I'll be buying it purely for the gorgeous art style, but I do wonder what longevity the game will have.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

Sure, it’s a charming little game and its faith to the classic cartoon style is extremely well done, but gameplay wise it looks like something I would tire of quickly.

The level aspect was a little too self descriptive when it said “run and gun” as there didn’t really seem to be any element of challenge or variety at all and instead you’d just be holding down two buttons constantly and occasionally tapping a third. So hopefully they won’t all be like that.

Some of the bosses as well seemed to lack variety in their attack patterns – The carrot boss in particular just seemed tedious more than anything
