AMD reveals full line of Radeon RX series GPUs

Today at E3, AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, took to the stage at the PC Gaming Show to reveal the full line-up of upcoming Radeon RX graphics cards, using the Polaris architecture. The first GPU in the line, the RX 480, was first announced earlier this month, using the power of Polaris to deliver a VR-capable graphics card at the $199 price point.

However, today, AMD also announced the RX 470 and the RX460. The former is aimed at delivering power-efficient 1080p gaming while the latter is being pushed as the “ultimate e-sports” GPU.

The whole Radeon RX line is aiming to bring the best performance to GPUs under the $300 price point and lower the cost of 1080p/60fps gaming and VR gaming. The first card in the line to go on sale will be the previously announced RX480, which will launch on the 29th of June.

Release dates for the RX 470 and RX 460 will come a little later. No board partner designs were shown off at the PC Gaming Show and we don't have the full specification list for both cards so there is still plenty of information to come.

KitGuru Says: While the Radeon RX line-up won't break high-end performance records, it will significantly lower the barrier of entry for virtual reality, 1440p, and high-detail 1080p gaming, which could shake up the market quite a bit for cards below $300.

  1. Power efficient 1080p gaming, that’s good enough for me 🙂

  2. thats good enough for most people, thats what they are targeting with the mentioned cards, i myself am planning on getting a 470 or 480 because i dont really need 4k or vr

  3. RX 460 sounds like a good upgrade for 7850, especially if the overclock is good and the price is $149.

currently have R9 270x… will RX 460 be better?

  5. Get the RX470 to have a nice increase in performance. Polaris 11=RX460 which will be around 270X for 50W power consumption. RX480 will be about 390X for $200 and RX470 will be -20% from this for $150 and less than 100W.

  6. Most possible close to $100 for 270X performance and 50W consumption for RX460. So, unless it oc for +20% FPS, no need to go for it. RX470 will be a true upgrade from 7850 imho.

  7. If I can get 970 performance for under 300usd (after taxes in my country). I’m in.

  8. I hope for performance that is close to R9 280X and some decent overclock.

  9. I am waiting for it to replace my old (but still good) 7850. I’m not sure RX470 would run nicely on FX6300

  10. I guess it will work fine. Polaris is the first true DirectX12 GPU from AMD so the CPU bottleneck shouldn’t be a problem at all.

  11. Going for the 1070 for power, though if anyone can bear with crossfire, a double rx 480 will be amazing , was hoping for a $300 powerful singamd le card to compete with the 1070, but for now, single card>xfire/sli.

Amd will surely dominate the mainstream market, and if nvidia’s price continues to rise in future generations, amd will surely control more of the GPU market share

  13. Thanks, will look when they go out but will definitely buy 460 or 470.. I’m glad that I didn’t bought GTX 960

  14. Looking at. The. 480 OC with 8GB. Which. Should give. A. Basic 1070 and 1060. A. run. For the money

  15. So, Do you guys thing 2 x RX 480 will be excellent at 1440p 144hz gaming?

  16. You might want to wait for the 490/X.

Seems as good as a 970, so if you’re playing source engine games then yes. Otherwise you’ll need two 980Tis at minimum for most games to run that well.

  18. Easily for any good coded game even with 1 RX480. With a good CF profile or in DX12 games they will run greatly.
