Analyst says Nintendo Switch 2 is coming later this year with an 8-inch LCD screen

We've been hearing about Nintendo's next-gen console plans for a while now, with many anticipating a continuation of the Switch design in the form of a more powerful Switch 2. According to a Japanese analyst, Nintendo should be releasing its new console later this year, but there is bad news for fans hoping for an upgrade to an OLED display.

According to Bloomberg, Omdia analyst, Hiroshi Hayase, has recently expressed to clients that Nintendo will be launching its new console later this year and it will feature an LCD display rather than an OLED one. Additionally, it is claimed that Switch 2 production could also have a big impact on LCD display sales, as shipments could well double for this type of display as Switch 2 production ramps up.

Launching a new hardware platform with improved graphics, higher storage capacity, and other advanced features would help Nintendo boost its appeal and enhance the quality of games it can create. Last year's release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was hailed as a technological wonder by the company for extracting every last drop of performance from an ageing platform, further emphasising the need for a hardware upgrade to improve game quality.

The current Nintendo Switch has been on the market for seven years and has sold over 132 million units. Although the company has not provided any official statement regarding its replacement, the next-generation console is anticipated to be released later this year.
