Despite being very successful with The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has consistently appeared in acquisition rumours. The company is kicking off 2024 by making it clear that it has no interest in merging with a larger company and plans to remain and continue to grow as an independent company.
Speaking with Polish news outlet, Parkiet, CD Projekt's Chief Strategy Officer, Adam Kiciński, the company has no interest in selling to join a larger company. In fact, the company expects to be “bigger and stronger” in a few years time.
Here's the relevant quote: “We are not interested in integrating ourselves into any larger entity. Throughout our entire lives we have worked towards the position we currently hold. We believe that in a few years, we will be even bigger and stronger.”
CD Projekt Red currently has a bunch of games in the works, including a Witcher spin-off game, a Witcher 1 remake, a brand new Witcher trilogy and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The company has also seen continued strong sales for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, as well as its highly praised Phantom Liberty expansion.
We don't know when the first of these new games will be coming out. Chances are, the Cyberpunk sequel and next Witcher game are still quite far off. However, a smaller scale project like The Witcher remake, or The Molasses Flood's Witcher spin-off could land sooner.
