There have been many Assassin's Creed games over the years but longtime fans often cite Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag as one of the best in the franchise. Now, a remake of the game may be just around the corner.
Earlier this year, sources told Kotaku that Ubisoft had greenlit a remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. This lined up with Ubisoft's own statements, as the company confirmed that it was considering going back to the early days of the franchise with remakes.
However, it was also claimed that the Black Flag remake was in the early stages and not close to release. It turns out, that part of the rumour might not be accurate.
According to Insider Gaming, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake is set to release sooner than expected, with a targeting release window of late 2025. At this stage though, the game could slip into 2026, as Assassin's Creed Shadows was just pushed back to early 2025 in an effort to avoid any critical issues on launch-day. That decision was madefollowing the ‘softer than expected' release of Star Wars Outlaws in August.
Black Flag first released in 2013 as a cross-gen title for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4. The game notably introduced open world sailing and delivered a fresh flavour for the Assassin's Creed universe. We've since seen some of these elements expanded on in newer Assassin's Creed titles, like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which also had players sailing the high seas for a good chunk of the game.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft still hasn't proven itself as far as remakes are concerned. Projects like Splinter Cell Remake and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake have been announced but neither game has come to fruition so far. With that in mind, I would be cautious with expectations over the Black Flag remake.
