Suspected 9800X3D shown hitting 5.6GHz, first game benchmark emerges

AMD confirmed yesterday that the first Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs are arriving next month. Ahead of the launch, the first “gaming” benchmark scores have been leaked, with Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail's benchmark tool giving us our first indication of how the upcoming 9800X3D performs. As a bonus, Cinebench R23 results have also been revealed…

In a recent post on the AnandTech forums, user igor_kavinski shared what appear to be early benchmarks of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The initial screenshots are from a system running this CPU and suggest a turbo frequency of 5.2 GHz across all cores. However, other screenshots show it running between 5.6 and 5.7 GHz across all cores.

It's worth pointing out that the screenshots don't explicitly name the 9800X3D. Still, the data shown in CPU-Z definitely suggests this is the upcoming X3D chip, or more specifically, an engineering sample rather than a retail SKU. The software also shows a clock speed of 5,643 MHz and BenchMate an “effective frequency” of 5687.53 MHz during Cinebench R23 testing. Further observations indicate that the CPU runs with PBO, Curve Optimizer, enhanced by a clock offset and BCLK modification.

In terms of performance, the 9800X3D scored 2,261 points in the single-core CB R23 test, while the multi-core score hit 25,258 points. To put this into perspective, the 7800X3D with PBO typically scores between 18,000 and 19,000 points, while the 9700X (PBO) scores over 23,000 points. Moving onto the gaming benchmark, the Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail benchmark score is easily the most interesting, delivering 62,360 points. Although details regarding the GPU used in this test are unknown, you can see in the thread that most (if not all) Ryzen 7 7800X3D systems can't even go above the 50K mark.

AMD has teased the launch of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D for November 7th, so it won't be long before we can assess its gaming prowess for ourselves.
