AMD's new RX 400-series graphics cards are on their way at the end of the month and while we already know quite a bit about the new range, we now know that there will be two versions of the RX 480, a 4GB model priced at $199 and an 8GB model priced at $229.
The $229 price tag is what AMD has suggested to retailers, so some partner cards may vary and custom cooled solutions will likely cost a bit more. However, this is still hitting the price point that AMD promised with the RX 480, which was under $300. AMD confirmed this pricing over on its Polish Facebook page.
Speaking of custom designs, Gibbo over at Overclockers UK has also let us know that there won't be any available at launch on the 29th, instead AMD's first batch will all feature a reference designed cooler, which AMD has apparently “nailed” this time.
KitGuru Says: There is quite a bit of excitement for AMD's RX 480 thanks to its low price. How many of you are planning on picking one up? Will you be springing for an 8GB version or will you stick with the cheaper 4GB variant?
Thats a very very interesting price
Didn’t AMD actually promise $200?
For the 4GB version.
That was for the 4 GB version, not the 8 GB version.
big question is .. will the 256 g/bs memory bus be fast enough to even properly use all 8 gigs… I know the memory bus is so slow on the gtx 960 that its degrading to use a 4GIG model over the 2 gig
It is enough for GTX 1070. I think it is because the card is advertised as 1440p card and there are many games that can fill more than 4gb of vram at that resolution. Many games use vram as cache while actually real memory consumption is not that high at all so why not.
And that is their price. On top of that goes taxes etc
the 480 has delta color compression and higher frequency (and higher effective frequency) RAM than the 390 and 390X
well 256 is good for 4gigs… but 385-512 would be ideal if not required for 8 gig mark
the 290x has a minimal 320GB/s for 4 gig and fury x is 512 on 4 gig.. so I hate to see what 256 on 8 gig will do
also there was no real benchmark on the 1070 using 6-8 gig constant to see if there a performance hit ether
my point about that 290/390(X) lack DCC which significantly helps with limited bus widths
yes I know but I still don’t think the bus will be able to keep up with a constraint 6-8gig Vram read/write (access) with out it slowing the overall performance down
well, we will find out when reviews are released, I aim at getting an 8 gig because I do a lot of CAD work and video editing in addition to gaming, more VRAM is also better with the former two

Ocing the ram on a 390x past say 100mhz gain literally 0 fps no matter how far you push the gpu. 390x is over saturated and is done so intentionally so it is able to fully unlock all the performance for the hawaii chip for the “rebrand” that happened.

more than 4gb for 1080p is pointless. for higher it can have gains but like other people have said the bus speed to access it is a big factor.
So two of the 4GB beat the GTX 1080 nice.
Ban Nvidia!

Interesting, because all of the prices so far for this are 329ish US dollars. I call BS on that price.
