Windows 10 Anniversary Update to launch in August

Windows 10 is almost one year old and to mark the occasion, Microsoft will be launching the ‘Anniversary Update' on the 2nd of August, just a few days after the official one year milestone. This new update will be free for all current Windows 10 users and will include some new features like Windows Ink, browser extensions for Edge and some new Cortana improvements, according to The Verge.

Microsoft didn't initially intend to announce its update launch this early but word slipped out this week. Over 350 million devices are currently running Windows 10 and will receive the update, Microsoft also used this opportunity to remind us that after July 29th, Windows 10 will no longer be a free upgrade and will cost $119.99 going forward.

Obviously, only desktop users will need to worry about paying for Windows 10, those using a Windows Phone will get the upgrade for free regardless as long as their device can run it. It is also worth noting that the Xbox One is also technically part of the Windows ecosystem now and no, they won't be charging for updates on that either.

Aside from that, not much else is known about Microsoft's upcoming Windows 10 update but it will likely release more information soon as we get closer to the release date.

KitGuru Says: A lot of people are using Windows 10 already but it will be interesting to see how many people are willing to upgrade once the $119.99 price tag kicks in.
