Xbox Play Anywhere launches in September

One of the biggest announcements that Microsoft made at E3 this year was the new ‘Xbox Play Anywhere' program, which allows you to buy a game once digitally and play it on both Xbox and PC. This program also means that all future Microsoft-published games will also end up on the PC and come September, we will start to see the benefits of this new ecosystem.

The Xbox Play Anywhere program kicks off on the 13th of September. This new feature will require the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update on the PC, which is coming out on the 2nd of August. Xbox One owners will also need the upcoming Summer update installed, from then on, games listed in the Xbox Store will include a Play Anywhere logo, showing that they can also be played on Windows 10.

Here is a full list of upcoming supported titles:

  • Gears of War 4
  • Forza Horizon 3
  • ReCore
  • Sea of Thieves
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Scalebound
  • Killer Instinct Season 3
  • State of Decay 2
  • Ark: Survival Evolved
  • Cuphead
  • We Happy Few
  • Crackdown 3

This list will expand going forward and will include future Xbox exclusives, like the next Halo. Microsoft began experimenting with this idea earlier this year with Quantum Break, where those who bought the game on Xbox One also got the PC version of the game for free. Games on the Xbox Play Anywhere program will be accessible via the Windows 10 Store.

KitGuru Says: People have been asking for Microsoft to start bringing more of its games to the PC for years and now they are finally listening. Now we just need to hope that future PC versions are up to scratch, as Microsoft has been working on improving its tools since the launches of Quantum Break and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which didn't fare too well on PC.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
