Sega now owns Endless Space developer, Amplitude Studios

Sega has purchased Endless Space developer, Amplitude Studios, acquiring the company's staff and assets, including the Endless franchise, which now includes Endless Legend, Dungeon of the Endless and the future Endless Space 2, still in development.

Amplitude Studios is quite a young developer, having only been founded in 2011. However its first title out of the gate, Endless Space, was well received and set it down a strong path. Presumably Sega wanted to get in on the upcoming release of Endless Space 2, expected to release sometime in 2016. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE1WOyrL51s']

Sega will now take over the publishing of the game when it is released, though it announced in the acquisition press release that it expected an Early Access period would begin before a final launch of the game.

In a statement, Sega's head of Europe, Jurgen Post, said that he was pleased with the buy and was excited to work with Amplitude on its upcoming title(s). He also said that Sega liked the Games2Gether system, which encouraged the studio's fans to get involved with the development process. It will be interesting to see if that's something we see with more of Sega's other titles in the future.

On top of Relic Entertainment, Creative Assembly and Sports Interactive, Amplitude is the fourth major studio to be purchased by Sega over the past decade.

KitGuru Says: Considering Sega seems to have done a reasonably good job being the overlord of games like Total War: Warhammer and Dawn of War III (probably), I'm not too concerned about it taking part in Endless Space 2 promotion. What's your thoughts on Sega these days?

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
