Sony has now shipped 43.5 million PS4s

While Sony has been struggling in other areas recently, the company has been able to rely on its PlayStation division for profit, which is now responsible for 58 percent of Sony’s operating income. Besides that, the PS4 has now passed another milestone with 43.5 million consoles shipped.

This is according to Sony’s latest quarterly financial report (via: GameInformer). Sales for Sony’s ‘Game and Network Services’ division have increased by 14.5 percent thanks to an increase in software sales, which Uncharted 4 undoubtedly helped with.

PlayStation Network revenue accounted for almost half of the division’s overall sales, sitting at 46 percent. This is a year-on-year increase though, jumping up from 38 percent previously.

While the PlayStation division is doing well, as a whole, Sony’s company-wide revenues have dipped by ten percent and has revised its financial forecasts slightly due to foreign exchange rate changes. These are results from April to June, so it is still too early to tell if upcoming hardware will have an effect on sales at all.

KitGuru Says: Sony has been taking some heavy losses over the last couple of years but the PlayStation division has remained consistently strong. Have any of you picked up a PS4 at all recently? Do you think you might wait for Neo to come out?

  1. I’ve mainly used it as a blu-ray player; it’s best exclusives are just remasters of old games and while those can be fun (although games like Uncharted are crap considering modern standards), it’s been somewhat disappointing as a gaming system for me so far.

  6. Although I don’t really agree on the “Uncharted crap”, I have to agree about the console not being used that much lately. I mostly had 3 games on it : Driveclub, Bloodborne (system seller), and Uncharted 4, but haven’t started it again since I finished those games.
But this is mostly due to the fact I have a gaming PC, and buy all the multi-platform titles on it, while most console players would buy all their games on their console.

Thankfully, the end of this year, and the start start of the next one will bring more exclusivities that I’m waiting eagerly : The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn.

  7. True, true. Sadly for me, I’ll be spending the rest of the year abroad without my PS4. So still no great games. Was really looking forward to TLG.
