Gears of War 4 has some very detailed PC system requirements

Normally when a publisher releases the PC system requirements for a game, we are presented with a fairly standard, predictable list of hardware that doesn't vary much between triple A titles. However, with Gears of War 4 Microsoft has really done its homework, offering the most detailed list of system requirements I think I have ever seen, with a separate minimum, recommended and ideal specification for AMD, Nvidia and Intel users.

Gears of War is returning to the PC platform this year with Gears of War 4, which is a nice jumping on point for those that missed out on previous Xbox 360 games in the series as it will kick off a brand new story with new characters. If you are an AMD purist looking to run this game, then the minimum system requirements call for an FX-6300 CPU, a Radeon R7 260x GPU and 8GB of RAM. Meanwhile if you are an Intel/Nvidia user, then the minimum system requirements call for an Intel Core i5 3470, a GTX 750Ti and 8GB of RAM.

The recommended system requirements for AMD users call for an FX-8350 CPU, a Radeon R9 290x or RX 480 and 8GB of RAM. If you are using an Nvidia system, then the recommended spec is an Intel Core i5 4690 CPU, a GTX 970 or GTX 1060 graphics card and 8GB of RAM. These specifications target 1080p users.

If you are looking to jump on to higher resolutions, then you will want a bit more power, so Gears of War 4 also has an ‘Ideal Spec'. For AMD, this includes an FX-9590, an R9 Fury X and 16GB of RAM, while for Nvidia this calls for a Core i7 4790, a GTX 980Ti or GTX 1080 and 16GB of RAM. Curiously, an SSD is also recommended in the ideal spec, while a standard HDD with 80GB of free space is recommended on the other lists. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc41iwdDai0′]

The one final caveat is that users have Windows 10 installed, along with the new anniversary update, which introduced the new ‘Play Anywhere' features announced at E3, bringing cross-play and cross-buy to PC and Xbox One. To show off just how good the game can look on a high-end system, Microsoft also put out a 4K gameplay trailer on YouTube, which you can see above- though do keep in mind that YouTube processing means you won't be getting an entirely accurate representation of graphical fidelity.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft is still attempting to win over PC gamers at the moment, so it is nice to see them putting in the effort, even when it comes to system requirements. Now we just need to hope the game launches without any major issues. Are any of you looking forward to Gears of War 4?

  1. Cool to have the game coming to a PC but I hate how it has to be a certain version of Windows 10 just to work. They are forcing people to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10 even though the last version before the august version would run the game fine without problems. They did the same thing with gears of war Ultimate Edition.

  2. I think it is time to upgrade my 750Ti…

  3. Yea they forced the update with Forza too.
I think the majority of Microsoft Titles have been fails anyhow.
I’m not excited to buy anything from Windows Store.

  4. Unfortunately in order for these new games to hit the performance target and true next gen gaming experience dx12 is used.
For a real DX12 game that’s built for next gen API from ground up Windows 10 has to be used.
Unless ofc microsoft allows dx12 api to work with windows 7 and 8 which can’t be that hard. But Microsoft has the final say.
