Virgin Media will be increasing its prices in November

It looks like Virgin Media customers here in the UK will soon be notified of an upcoming price hike as the company confirmed today that from November this year, line rental costs will be going up, alongside broadband packages and bundles.

Letters are said to start going out to Virgin Media subscribers today. From November, line rental will be going up from £17.99 per month to £19 per month. Those who pay annually for the line rental will see the price jump from £184 to £196.

On the other side of things, broadband packages and bundles will increase by £3 or £4 per month depending on your package. This echoes on from February this year, when Virgin Media bumped prices up for many of its packages by around 5 percent.

This time around, as Engadget points out, prices have risen to help support Virgin Media's UK infrastructure upgrades, which will help bring faster download speeds to customers down the line. If you joined Virgin Media after January 23rd 2014, then you should be offered a way out of your contract if you are unhappy with the new prices.

KitGuru Says: As a Virgin Media customer myself, it is always a bit disappointing to hear that you may now need to pay out more money per month. However, until other providers can start offering 152Mb broadband, I'm not sure I'd want to make the switch. Are any of you on Virgin Media at the moment? What do you think of this news?

  1. Already paying too much for a service that barely works half the time. This is just +1 reason to switch

  2. Wud be nice before they increases prices to fix their superhub 3 firmware which is currently completely broken in modem mode and has port flapping every 2048 seconds on Arris CTMS..!!! Ridiculous

  3. The £17.99 line rental comes from BT, who are a fucking joke. If Virgin are putting up the price of DSL line rental alone without BT having done so that’s appalling. Mine is currently £15 a month barely any providers charge what BT do.

Also, while I’m ranting. BT try their hardest to only spend line rental revenue on line maintenance and upgrades… Yet they’re the sole runners of their network… They should be forced to eat into their massive profits to do that.

Better yet, let’s confiscate the lines from them and force them to complete like the other providers. Public ownership of the UKs DSL network!

  4. Virgin don’t use BT phone lines

  5. Virgin media is fantastic in my city. I can manage an extra few quid a month, I’ll probably end up getting yet another free double-speed upgrade later on anyway

  7. Yes they do.

How do you think your phone works on Virgin? Magic? Only the TV and Internet goes through the coaxial line. Phone still goes though the normal phone lines. Which you need to pay line rental on.

Virgin also offer ADSL/VDSL services as well, to those who are not in a cabled area.

No, Virgin have their own infrastructure for telephone lines as well, that’s why if you have Virgin you’ll have a separate phone port from the BT one.

  9. Please look up how VMs network works at not point does there network use bts phone lines
It uses coax cable vs bt normal electrical wiring and goes to separate cabinet’s and separate phone exchange’s. The only link between the two is via fiber-optic back hauls for internet traffic as well as phones services and phone calls are over voip post exchange even on bts network
