Apple is all set to announce its next iPhone in September, which we already know quite a bit about thanks to leaks. However, it looks like we may also see Apple announce the Apple Watch 2, which we have heard much less about until now.
According to KGI’s Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo (via 9to5mac), the Apple Watch 2 will release in 2016, featuring a new SoC capable of better performance. The new smartwatch will also feature GPS, a barometer and enhanced waterproofing protection.
While those additional features will make their way in, the analyst does not think that Apple will change the smartwatch’s physical appearance this generation, which makes sense given that there are only so many ways you can make a watch.
The original Apple Watch is apparently expected to remain on sale at the same time as the Apple Watch 2. However, future units will apparently be built with the new, slightly faster SoC, so Apple can streamline manufacturing.

KitGuru Says: This is all rumour for now but it wouldn’t be too surprising to see a new Apple Watch this year. Lowering the price of the original Apple Watch could also end up helping with sales as things have slowed down a bit in recent months.
