Nvidia’s Pascal Titan rumoured to launch in August

At this point, we have all had a good look at what Pascal can do following on from the launches of the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070. However, there is a more powerful Pascal card on the horizon- Nvidia's next Titan, which is currently rumoured to launch at Gamescom in August.

According to a report from VRWorld, Nvidia's next high-end GPU will be the GTX Titan P, sporting the GP102 chip, which is said to be at least 50% faster than the GTX 1080. That said, Nvidia is still focussing on its GP102 Quadro cards, which will launch first, so performance numbers for the next Titan are apparently based on internal targets.

It is said that there are two different versions of Nvidia's GeForce GP102 card, one with 6GB of HBM2 and another with 12GB of HBM2. Both will likely use an 8+6 pin power configuration, allowing for a 300W TDP. One interesting tidbit from the report is that the sources claim that these new GPUs are bound by the CPU, so a 3GHz Intel Core i7-6950x won't feed the card as well as a 4GHz Core i7 6700K.

Obviously this is all unofficial for now so take it with a grain of salt. That said, if what is said was accurate, we should see Nvidia announce its next Titan at Gamescom sometime between the 17th of August and the 21st.

KitGuru Says: The GTX 1080 is an exceptional graphics card but the GP102 could be the first to bring 4K/60fps on a single card if it is truly a 50% bump in performance. Either way, if these rumours are accurate, we should learn more next month as we get closer to Gamescom.

  1. Crap. I had all my plans for buying the GP102 next year. If they release it at gamescom… oh crap.

At what price. You would be a fool to think its going to be 999 dollars, say 1200 most likely. Nvidia are gouging ever segment with price rises. (999=4xRX 480’s 1200 would be 5×480’s)

Just picked up a 1 RX 480. It was very quiet and at 1440 played smooth, (The division, virtually maxed at 47 FPS on the benchmark, but in game it felt smoother)

Please note I also run 980 TI’s in sli and FURY X systems so I know what I am talking about.

  3. Wow, just wow. IF (and thats a BIG IF) the next titan performs like this rumour says it does. We could be looking at the worlds first TRUE 4k card.

  4. Bought a 1080 and love it. I’ll be waiting for the Ti 😉

  5. This is the 4K Dominating Beast I have been waiting for, the 980ti beating Pascal 1080 is great and the 980ti matching 1070 is a performance per watt bargain but the Titan P will be the most Future Proof GPU on the Planet.

AMD’s watt wasting best Polaris GPU the RX480 has the performance of a old Maxwell 970 and lowly VR score of only 6.6 but has the same TDP as a Pascal 1070 which matches Maxwell 980ti, proving that AMD/GloFo/Polaris is totally destroyed by NVIDIA/TSMC/Pascal. Gamers looking to buy a new GPU in the $250 range would be very smart to wait a few weeks for Pascal 1060 or risk getting a very bad case of buyers remorse.

“Radeon R9 390 scores a 7.4 in Steam’s VR Performance Test. Radeon RX
    480 achieves a 6.6. An old Radeon R9 290 isn’t far off at 6.5.”, Damn
Pathetic for a new GloFo FinFET Performance Farce.”

  6. Bro, you can’t really say that it is future proof. No matter how good the specs look, this card will be outmatched from the next one, i.e. Volta. Nothing is future proof, and if the rumors for X99 chips are true, and a famous CPU like the 5820K, which a lot of gamers bought becomes a bottleneck, then it will be frustrating as hell for a lot of people. Since Kabylake is soon to arrive as well as Zen, at least one of those CPUs should be able to feed the Titan P and come with a good competitive price tag.

  7. I know, you know, we ALL KNOW that the Titan P will be the most Future Proof GPU on the Planet that you can buy right now, so what’s your point captain obvious?

We are selling custom built Battle Boxes rigs with Pascal/Intel inside like ice cold water in a dry dusty desert leaving anything and everything AMD outside. My rig is rocking a 980ti but later this year my new Build a Battle Box will be rolling with Pascal Titan P/Intel inside and be the most Future Proof Battle Box Rig on the Planet that you can buy right now NOT in the year 2525 if we are still alive, but AMD did not survive.

  8. The Titan are 12GB / 16GB HBM respectively same as the Tesla counterpart. You will never see a 6GB Titan after 2014.

Expected bandwidth is around 480GB/s or 640GB/s for the 12/16GB variant.

Both are expected to feature the same amount of cores, which peak at 3584 currently. However the 16GB one will be clock higher, explaining the extra 50W TDP. The bigger Titan could feature some DP capability while the smaller Titan could be a pure gaming card (with friendlier pricing). The cheaper Titan will definitely start from $999 onward.

Dont be surprised if the big Titan comes in at $1399 with only FE.
