Lords of the Fallen has gone Gold

Lords of the Fallen was one of the first Souls-like games to be released by a studio other than FromSoftware, with the 2014 title unfortunately receiving mixed reviews across the board. That said, a sequel to the game – also named Lords of the Fallen – is set to launch in just a few short weeks. Almost a decade after the first game, the much-anticipated title has now gone Gold.

Making the announcement on Steam, the team at Hexworks revealed this latest milestone, saying “Greetings, Lampbearers. We come bearing glad tidings – Lords of the Fallen has officially Gone Gold. HEXWORKS warmly awaits your journey to the lands of Mournstead, this October 13th.”

They continued, “To mark this momentous occasion, next week we'll open the HEXWORKS Dev Journals, when we’ll endevour to answer your burning questions on Lords of the Fallen. In Light, We Walk.”

For the uninitiated, ‘Going Gold’ means that the Lords of the Fallen master disc has been submitted to the game’s publisher: CI Games. Following the submission of the gold master, discs can be pressed with finalised software and digital storefronts can upload the 1.0 version of the game ready for release. It’s a process that every game in development goes through, and means that (aside from post-launch patches) Lords of the Fallen is complete and ready to play.

Lords of the Fallen serves both as a technical showpiece for Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 as well as being a second chance for the IP. While not despised, the first game was not loved either – and so it will be interesting to see how the game is received upon its release in just a few weeks.
