Over the past few years, we have seen the Steam platform grow from strength to strength, surpassing its own concurrent user count on a semi-regular basis. Almost exactly one year since it broke its last record, Steam has once again hit a brand new peak.
As available to view on SteamDB, yesterday saw Valve’s platform break its own concurrent user record with more than 33 million Steam users online – 33,675,229 to be exact. For context, Stream first hit 33 million concurrent users back in January of last year. CCU figures continued to grow until March of 2023 when it hit its peak of 33,598,520 people.
As expected, since then the user base has ebbed and flowed, but it seems as though going into the new year, people have been playing games more than ever. As we saw with the concurrent users, total concurrent in-game players also reached new heights – surpassing 10 million for only the second time. Like with concurrent online players, total in-game players reached 10 million back in January of last year and persisted until March.
Considering the fact that we saw a similar situation regarding Steam’s CCU number this time last year, it will be interesting to see whether the platform will continue to grow, or if 33 million concurrent players will remain its peak.
KitGuru says: What do you think of these figures? Why do you think the January-March period is so popular? Will Steam surpass 33 million by the end of the year? Let us know down below.
