Microsoft’s first ‘Play Anywhere’ game releases this week

Back at E3 this year, Microsoft announced the Xbox Play Anywhere program, bringing most major releases this year to console and PC at the same time. If you buy a game on one system, you will automatically get it on the other and saves will transfer between both. While the canceled Fable Legends was initially supposed to be the first game to take advantage of this system, that honor has now fallen onto ReCore, which came out today.

ReCore is now available in the US and a few other countries on Xbox One and Windows 10, with cross-buy and cross-save functionality. This game came from Keiji Inafune's new studio, Comcept, in collaboration with Microsoft Studios. It is an action-adventure with platforming elements, taking place on the planet “Far Eden”. While we didn't get much information on the game's story during E3, the launch trailer sets things up quite nicely with an emotional voice-over and plenty of gameplay to look at. If you live in Europe, you will get to play this game on Thursday the 16th of September.

This will be the first big test for Microsoft's new Play Anywhere system, which will go on to be part of bigger upcoming games like Gears of War 4. If it is successful, we may see Microsoft continue to expand this into other games beyond what was announced this year specifically.

KitGuru Says: I am hoping that this new Play Anywhere initiative takes off, after all, it would be nice to live in a world where all Xbox games also come to PC by default. Are any of you planning on trying out ReCore at all?
