Pokémon Go player records own mugging on livestream

In another instance of a Pokémon Go player being attacked by someone unscrupulous, we have a near perfect video account of the crime, since the victim was livestreaming the whole time. In it we see the mugger approach, launch his assault before running away and factory resetting his new phone.

Streamer RickeyBot was just meandering through Central Park in New York, when he was accosted by a young man from behind. In the video we can hear Rickey plea with his attacker, before the camera view shifts as the criminal runs off with his device as it is still streaming.

Players are given a reasonably accurate insight into the location of the man as he makes his retreat, since Pokémon Go's map updates with landmarks as he passes them. Once that is shut down though, viewers are left watching the phone's display as the criminal first turns the brightness down – presumably to save battery – and then factory resets the phone.

All the while viewers can be seen discussing what to do, whether they should call the police, how to record the stream and asking if anyone managed to get an image of the thief. Eventually though the stream just goes dark, leaving everyone unaware of what will happen.

Fortunately it looks like though he has received some damage to his jaw, Rickey is just fine. He'll have to drink through a straw for a few days it seems, but for the most part he's doing ok and has passed along higher quality footage to the police. A couple of witnesses are said to have seen the attack too, so it's possible that the man will be found. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled.
