On Saturday morning, Microsoft's free year-long upgrade offer for Windows 10 officially ended. We were expecting this to mean that from now on, those looking to upgrade will need to pay the £99/£179 license fee depending on whether they wanted the Home or Pro edition. However, it looks like Microsoft has left a convenient loophole open, allowing Windows 7 or 8.1 users to still upgrade for free.
Microsoft has introduced a ‘free upgrade offer extension' for those running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 with assistive technologies, the catch is that Microsoft has made the EXE downloadable by anyone via the company's accessibility site. According to The Verge, the upgrade reportedly does not make any checks and just goes through with no problems.
So far, Microsoft hasn't announced an end date for the free upgrade intended for assistive technology users. Microsoft also hasn't acknowledged the loophole or made a move to stop non assistive technology users from taking advantage of the users at the time of writing, though that could change at any point so if you just missed the chance to upgrade, you might want to be quick.
Tomorrow, Microsoft will begin rolling out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which will be the biggest update so far, introducing new features and making plenty of changes.

KitGuru Says: Given that the Windows 10 upgrade is now supposed to come with a pretty hefty price tag, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft responds to news of this workaround. Did any of you miss the free Windows 10 upgrade?
It’s still available because Windows 10 is actually a project of the NSA, their greatest source of illegally mined data.
I finally upgraded.
All sorts of annoying things I had to quickly fix, like getting pictures to open with the OLD windows photo viewer not that new annoying one, or having videos or music open with the old player too. I also don’t like how the X on the top right corner of window boxes gets in the way of trying drag the corner to expand or shrink the window.
Other then that it works…. pretty good. I kinda like it. I am still angry they skipped 9 though. It was gona be called WINDOWS METROSEXUAL. It wasn’t gona quite be METRO, but it sure was gona look like it!
The best part is now the NSA has my back bros! They are gona collect terabytes of data on me from playing video games, that’s awesome!
Just a heads up about 10 which personally I find the best…
If you want to reset the PC (out of the box if you will), just type ‘reset this PC’ in Start and cleaning the drive that has the OS on is a great help!
99% of the time when someone comes to me with a buggered PC or so cluttered with bloatware, I just reset and clean the drive (after a backup of core user data of course). Every few months after testing software and such, I do this. My Steam, Origin and other game data are running from another drive and then those are backed up on another so if you reset the PC and just clean the drive with the OS, it’s a breeze getting it up and running again without downloading so much data.

The free upgrade will end with the Anniversary Update arrival…it’s the logical way to do things, they just left a few little doors for the peoples that where a little late, after the update the free version will be shut down and anyone from that point would have to buy the license for using win 10

yeah, sure, and they will watch the installation numbers tank like a rock, because nobody needs this crap for $150 or whatever they are charging.
Is it an NSA project? Probably not. Is it spying on you and feeds the data for monetization and surveillance by the “government”? It certainly does!
They will be collecting a LOT of porn metadata, that’s for sure l;)
