For a long time, the Nexus 7 was considered to be one of the best Android tablets around but eventually, Google shelved it and moved on to the Nexus 9. However, we could see the 7-inch tablet design return this year as it is being reported that Huawei has been called on to build a successor to the Nexus 7.
The news came from EVLeaks, who has been a consistantly reliable source over the years. According to his sources, Huawei is building a new 7-inch tablet for Google, featuring 4GB of RAM and a release date set for later this year.
This isn't the first time we have heard that Google may bring back its popular 7-inch tablet. Towards the end of last year rumours began circulating that the Nexus 7 may be brought back from the dead in 2016.
While Huawei and Google may be teaming up on a new 7-inch tablet, there is some uncertainty going around about the future of the Nexus brand right now, so it may end up launching under a different name. As 9to5Google points out, one of the more credible rumours going around is that Nexus branding may be replaced by ‘Pixel' for future smartphones and tablets.

KitGuru Says: The Nexus 7 was a great little tablet back in 2012 and 2013. It will be interesting to see what becomes of the Huawei's spritual successor though, especially since it has been a few years since we have had a prominent Android tablet on the market.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I’d love a new Nexus 7. My old one is starting to have problem with the latest apps. Provided it’s not going to be an expensive high-end tablet of course.
I’m typing this on my series II nexus 7 right now, bought as soon as they came out. Personally I would like to see an 8″ version, this is a little too small and the 9″ is too big. I don’t have that many apps in use other than Opera, a file manager and an eye protector. I have had to renew the micro USB port after it stopped charging, The new port was well under a quid off Amazon, but was a real, real pain to fit, however a couple of hours work have given the old tablet at least another year of life.

That would be nice, I had the Nexus 7 2012 but after Lollipop, it became unusable due to the poor memory/storage/IO performance (Ill never buy anything that says nVidia Tegra on it). Then bought the Nexus 7 2013 32GB and I am so happy with it. I even managed to install Pure Nexus on it, install the Elemental X kernel and overclock the CPU to 2GHz and the GPU to 491MHz and never lags, it performs great and no lag, it gets a little hot but I don’t mind. That little Krait 300 chip still punchy today!
