Final Fantasy XV could come to PC but it would take over a year

We have been hearing murmurs of Final Fantasy XV coming to the PC for a while now. Back in February some traces of a PC version were discovered in the source code of the game's official website and then in March, Square Enix said that it would be ‘looking into' bringing Final Fantasy XV to PC after it comes out on consoles. Now the subject has come up once again with director Hajime Tabata talking about the game potentially coming to PC.

In an interview with Spanish website, Vida Extra, (translated) Hajime Tabata iterated that right now, Final Fantasy XV has only been announced for the Xbox One and PS4. However, he did go on to explain that he does have a plan in mind when it comes to working on a PC version if Square Enix decides to greenlight it.

“Not talking about something real, just an idea, if we worked on a PC version of what I have very clear in mind is that we would work to provide a better version of what we have now on consoles. We could say that something like this would take us more than a year. We should work to adapt the engine, which is very laborious, and from there to develop its course.”

Final Fantasy has a checkered history on the PC but Square Enix has been making more of an effort over the last couple of years. If Final Fantasy XV does well on consoles, then perhaps we will see development expand to PC at some point next year.

KitGuru Says: As a fan of the series, it would be nice to see Final Fantasy get to a point where the PC becomes a core platform for new games. Perhaps things will head in that direction eventually but with XV, it looks like we will be waiting more than a year, should Square Enix choose to bring the game to PC.

  1. First game featuring DX12, I don’t think there is anything else into this than giving a reason to buy PS4 just as many have already done. In any case this is expected and shouldn’t be surprise for anyone, could also be that they haven’t even started to “optimize” for PC at all.

Two of my friends have bought PS4 just for this game and they both have said that it probably comes for PC and they just want to play it. But I’ll wait, also can’t use controller without looking down similar to classic dad forefingering that keyboard. 😀

  2. Willing to wait.

  3. Will wait for the PC version. They basically reassuring us it is coming on PC. Tabata teased a PC version many times in the past months. After all i want to see how the game will fare before I buy it. Also need to see what will happen with the DLCs. Not buying a console for 1-2 games.

  4. Sigh happy to play it now…..for the god damned story and gameplay, not for the oooooh but I can play with the settings but once im immersed I don’t even notice anyway bull crap. I’m a pc gamer who is also not embarrassed to say owns an Xbox one. Honestly though enough is enough I just select 1440p press auto and play the fricking games lol

  5. See it done Square Enix

  6. SteamOS it and I’ll get it. Enjoying Tomb Raider, Rocket League, MadMax along with CSGO these days.

  7. Shame though, sounds like you’re not taking full advantage of the money you spent on your PC for the sake of… impatience? What a waste. You should sell your rig to someone who would put it to better use and give it the time and care it deserves and stick to consoles. I bet you didn’t research a thing and had someone else slap it together for you.

    Just wow

  9. Im almost 40yrs old, my first self build pc was a 80486. Ive forgotten more about PC’s than you’ll ever possibly know. However thats irrelevant because more importantly my Steam account has 200 games and across Origin, Uplay, Battle.net and GOG I have another 100 games. I’ll happily let you verify. My point being I PLAY GAMES, I don’t run FRAPS or pause to check for jaggies. Just finished Witcher 3 with 250hrs….on the Olgierd fight I can’t quiet remember what colour where his eyes???? I can’t remember but I remember the emotion I felt as I played through it.

  10. Waiting for a PC version as well. Not a fan of the 20-30 fps dip fest you get on consoles.

  11. 30fps is not a dip is the sweet spot, to run at 60 fps or 144 fps on pc games are downgraded, even if they look better than consoles at that frame rates, graphics are stuck and look like shit for the hardware being used. 30 fps is playable and gives room for more graphics, something that PC fanboys cared about and changed for “FPS whoreness” since, no more crysis, doom 3 nor far cry exclusives are on pc exclusives with fancy amazing graphics, now most PC games look normal like console games and play better (some and with expensive hardware). Also 20 fps dips are rare on consoles and only in a few games.

  12. Anyway i will wait for the pc version because i only play on pc and will be better, not only in frame rates.
