Sony finally agrees to let Bethesda bring mods to PS4

Last month, Bethesda let PlayStation 4 owners know that Sony wasn't playing ball when it came to bringing mods to the console. Given that Bethesda has had mods running for Fallout 4 on the Xbox One for months now, this news didn't go down well. Fortunately, it didn't take long for Sony to turn things around as Bethesda has now revealed that PS4 owners will be getting mods for Fallout 4 and Skyrim: Special Edition after all.

“We are excited to finally get modding to our PlayStation fans who have supported us for so long”, Bethesda's announcement reads. “Modding has been an important part of our games for over 10 years, and we hope to do even more in the coming year for all our players, regardless of platform.”

So at some point this year, PS4 owners can expect to get a mod support patch for Fallout 4. Skyrim: Special Edition will also be getting mod support some time after its launch in late October. On top of all of that, Bethesda will be adding additional graphical features to both Fallout and Skyrim for PlayStation 4 Pro buyers. Skyrim itself will render in native 4K, while Fallout 4 will get upscaling and an improved lighting system.

KitGuru Says: Sony did catch some flack for blocking Bethesda's modding efforts, especially given that mods were an advertised feature and have been present on the Xbox One for a while now. Fortunately, it looks like everything has worked out for PS4 owners.

  1. good, some of the console players are cancerous to the modding community (demands, death threats, etc.) but mods on both consoles for both games will just extend their life.
