Cuphead delayed again, but Thumper is out now

When KitGuru visits shows like Insomnia Series and EGX, we like to spend a lot of time covering all of the new and innovative indie games that are in the works, watching them grow and develop over the years. Now that Thumper is finally out, we're pretty excited, but the fact that Cuphead has once again been delayed is rather disappointing.

Cuphead is a game based on the 1930's cartoon animation style, giving it a unique aesthetic as well as some rather creepy bosses and settings. Initially designed as a boss brawler, Cuphead has seen been extended to something of a more traditional (if rather difficult) side-scroller,  but it' faced regular delays and this latest one has pushed it back to mid-2017 to ship with the developer's “vision intact,” (thanks EG). Fortunately then we don't have to wait any longer for Thumper. We came across this creation by ex-Harmonix developers at EGX 2015, where it was part of the Rezzed section and had little but a piece of paper with “Thumper,” on it to tell you about the game. There were no controls, just the pounding soundtrack and the Lovecraftian-like visuals for company.

We quickly picked up on the controls though, clicking and turning left, clicking and turning right, smashing barriers and jumping obstacles in time to the beat. It's the kind of game you can become lost in, enveloped in the sensory overloading experience that is Thumper. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj0pNGvfF_8′]

Thumper is now available on Steam at £15, with early reviews giving it very strong praise. It's also available on PS4 with PSVR support.

KitGuru Says: While not a huge rhythm game fan, the right ones can really suck me in. Audioshield has taken up so much of my time this year and Thumper – especially with an HTC Vive port – looks like it could do the same.
